Turning the other cheek is not always an easy endeavor. It takes a lot of practice and willingness on the part of a Christian person. Sometimes we succeed and other times we don't. God understands that certain circumstances arise that make this act almost impossible to do. Many people are misinformed of doing this action. People think that immediately after a tragedy or something else happens to us we should automatically forgive that person(s) of their actions. Forgiveness and turning the other cheek does not necessarily happen that very second. It could happen within hours, days, weeks, months or years. There is no set time frame for this to occur. As long as it does happen and you seek guidance and comfort from God above.

"But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also." Matt 5:39

Turning the other cheek does not mean ignoring a wrong done nor does it mean pretending it never happened. It's heart attitude in a believer that chooses to not retaliate against an offender, but to "overcome evil with good". Then there's forgiveness. Forgiveness pardons the sinner without excusing the sin. It's releases the forgiver from the ravages of resentment and bitterness, and the offender from the guilt they incur as a result of the damage they've done when they seek your forgiveness. It shows mercy.

The love you are referring to is not a product of ourselves as most believe. Our love does not promote Jesus Christ. The love the bible refers to is found in Galatians 5:22 and is a fruit of the Spirit of God manifested outwardly in the life of a believer toward others. However, you can't manifest something you haven't obtained. This kind of love is not automatic- it's the evidence of a life bound in Jesus Christ and devoted to a relationship with Him. It comes from change that God Himself brings into a believer's life by the work of His Holy Spirit; it's forged in our hearts by spending time communing with Him daily, being seasoned by the salt of His presence and the power of His word, and tempered by the fire of trial.

That's where the love is.

Five days after it began, the new conflict in the Middle East has intensified as Hezbollah and Israel struck deeper into each other's territory and claimed more innocent lives.
At least 30 civilians were killed during the latest wave of violence, including a group fleeing Lebanon.
More deaths came as Israeli conducted its first stikes on the centre of Beirut, turning Hezbollah's headquarters into rubble
For scared and frustrated locals, Lebanon's highways have been turned into a tangle of destruction and few petrol stations still operate. Few routes of escape exist.
A convoy of families trying to cross Lebanon's southern border came under attack from an Israeli helicopter near Marwaheen.

Eighteen people, nine of them children, were burnt alive.

this is what religion does

We can never solve things by looking to anothers behavior to either spur us to act or confirm what we want to believe. We each have to take responsibility to decide our values and ethics and live out what we believe. Love starts in our own hearts and goes out from there. We can only influence others by living our truth. Showing the way. Energy is collective, get alot of negative people around and it changes the atmosphere, alot of positive people same result. Even though everyone can't help but be saddened by whats going on in the world today, be on the postive side. Hating destroys the hater as well as the hated.

alot of people turn the other cheek and I am one of them but in the bible it does say an eye for an eye and most people live by that. I have had some horrible things happen to me but I have forgiven those who have hurt me and moved on I pray for them and i feel sorry for them. to turn the other cheek you have to have the ability to see the good in people when no one else can you have to have forgiveness with in your self and start from within and work outwards.

Yes, I turn the other cheek several times a day, which is quite a change for me, and I thank God everyday that I am able to do it.

It's hard to do. If you point a finger at another, you must do so in humility, realizing you're not perfect either. You must have their best interest as your motivation, not jutice when you've suffered a wrong.
