it can, yes. coughing on purpose is one of the things they tell you to do if you think you're having a heart attack. it jars the heart and gets it pumping again - the two ideas seem to coincide to me.

Yes, coughing is work that calls for more energy. When the body calls for more energy it causes the heart rat to go up. The heart rate will return to normal shortly after the coughing stops.

well it is known that when you yawn you heart slows down then rapidly starts up thus beating harding, and coughing is almost like yawning so i'd say yes it does make your heart beat faster.
