There are supposedly 144000 "chosen ones" who join God in Heaven as angels. All of the others are supposed to get a "paradise" Earth or the "New System" after Armageddon(which they think is going to be soon, even though they previously thought it was going to be 1914 then changed their minds and altered everything.) (Why are people obsessed about going to Heaven?)

I'm not a JW but my dad is so I know about them.

Jehovah's Witnesses understand heaven to refer to the dwelling place of spirit creatures such as Jesus and the angels. They understand the Scriptures to teach that exactly 144,000 humans will join Christ Jesus as kings and priests to administer God's Kingdom (which will soon replace all earthly governments).
(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite
(Revelation 14:1) Lamb [Jesus] standing upon the Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand
(Revelation 20:6) they will be priests of God and of the Christ, and will rule as kings with him

Over whom will they rule? Over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.
(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”

Almighty Jehovah God selects those few who have the heavenly calling. Each person "feels" his own hope and each person's hope remains unquestioned by his fellow Christians. Still the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%*) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]

Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.
(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'
(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'
(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'
(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'
(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind

Here is an interesting Yahoo Question and Answer which discuss how Jehovah's Witnesses know that the 144,000 figure is a literal one:

They believe that only a very very very very select few are worthy....I'm not even sure if they believe that anyone living right now is worthy of being a part of that 144,000. From what I can gather ( I have studied with some J.W. friends). they believe that living here on earth in a glorified matter is good enough. Although I don't believe that is enough for myself, they seem to be happy enough with it.

People who are part of the 144,000 just know that they are a part of it. The other people are going to live on a perfect earth forever if they develop a close relationship with God and follow the Bible.

And yes, some people are going to be part of that number. That person would just know it.
