Chris C- he woke up with this temp arpund 7:30 this morning, it's now 11:05 am. He is usually VERY active. We have tylenol and motrin in him, waiting and hoping it will take this temp down!! He did go to the bathroom yesterday, not today. He is starting to get a slight rash on the back of his left shoulder.

Take him to an emergency room. That is a very dangerous temperature for a child. Probably the pond is polluted/the water is not potable and the child has some type of virus. Maybe a stomach virus. Either way, Im no expert. But I would call 911 or take him to the ER. At least when you call 911 the people will let you know if it is such a situation where your in need of an ambulance. Dont wait for the Drs call.

If you don't hear from the doctor very very soon, call the emergency room...that fever is way too high. I'd actually be on my way with him to the emergency room if I were you. Till you decide on that:
Give him some Tylenol to help bring down the fever and place a damp cloth on his head. If the fever goes any higher run a cool bath (not too cold) and place him in it to help draw out the heat.
edit...he drank pond water? Definitely just go to the ER...better safe than sorry. Don't let him drink pond water again.
A rash can be a sign of an allergic reaction...and many other things...if he already took medicine and it's been more than 30 mins since and the temp hasn't gone down significantly...that's not good.

There is probably no need to rush him to the ER if the fever is the only symptom. They will give him tylenol and pedialyte and send him home. I have a child with chronic fevers.
If you have already given Tylenol and he is still feverish, but it isn't time for more Tylenol, you can go ahead and give him Ibuprofen. You can give the two concurrently, as long as you each one on the recommended time table. This always helps my daughter more than either one alone.
You can also give him a luke-warm bath. Remember, he is hot, so if it feels cool to you, it is going to feel freezing cold to him. Since luke-warm water would still be at a lower temp than his body, it will help without being extrememly uncomfortable for him like cool water would be.
And no matter what anyone else tells you, NO ALCOHOL BATH!!!!!

get him to the emergency room quick! Sometimes pond water has animals in it such as turtles, algae, and plankton or some other thing that would cause this sickness. Its called Salmonella a disease that can be fatal to every one but especially fatal to children under 8 years of age. I'm careful with this sickness because i can get it by accident any day because i have two turtles at my house plus my brother had it when i was just born. You would know he has it when you see a rash, high fever, a little tired, and constant pooing. You could let him rest until the doctor comes or you could just comfort him by gently swaying your hand on his forehead.

There are several problems with this, and the first thing you need to do is take him to a hospital. Don't wait on the doctors office to open on Monday or to call you back. It is possible that your son has been exposed to E-coli or some other infectious germ from the pond water. The fact that he is lethargic should be a big warning sign to you. Stop waiting for someone to come to your aid on this matter and get your son to the ER. It could be bad if you wait to long.

I'm sure you've tried the tylenol route. If it stays at this level with tylenol, he needs to be seen. Hopefully this is the same advice the MD will give you. Hard to diagnose over email but those are the signs to take him to the ER. How long has the fever lasted? Has he gone to the bathroom recently? What is his normal state of activity?

Tylenol STAT for the fever. If you don't hear anything from the doctor in 5 mins, call him back.
Put him in a slightly cool (not cold!) bath too or wipe down with cool washrag.
In the future stop letting him drink from ponds... may or may not be related but you're asking for GI issues like mad. Parasites suck.

no idea as to what is going on, my first guess is ear infection, though
You can alternate advil and tylenol every 2 hours to bring the fever down and try to give lots of liquids untill he sees the Dr.

Might not have anything to do with the water...maybe too much sun....depending on how hot it was where you are living. Maybe heat exhaustion??? Have him drink lots of fluids....that always helps with just about anything. He could also be dehydrated??
Am sure the doc will call soon! Good luck!

Get him to the emergency room. I don't want to scare you but there are some pretty nasty things running around in ponds starting with giardia and ending with meningitis.
Also, WTF were you thinking letting a 21 month old swim in a cesspool and drink water? Where do you live, Laos?
