Don't ask, as you simply won't get. The trick is to arrive early, be dressed smartly (like a casual shirt and trousers, rather than t-shirt or jeans) and be nice and friendly to the staff at the desk. Even this rarely works, but I've found it to be the best way, and know someone who ended up being put on first-class Concorde when their standard flight got cancelled that their economy ticket was for when doing this.

You can ask, but it isn't going to happen. Don't you think everyone else in coach would also like to be upgraded? Rarely do we upgrade people to first-class, unless they are frequent-flyers with coupons. We've never upgraded anyone simply because they asked. Would that be fair to the people who actually paid extra for those first class seats?

No use...they upgrade only when you are a frequent flyer with them...or if you are willing to pay the difference amount.
BUT depending on the emergency situations...like preponing a flight and if there is no seat in economy they will put you in first class...that is sure...but you should be able to convince them...
GOOD LUCK!

You will pay much more extra money to upgrade your ticket to first class, but if you are willing to do so, you can contact them now and not wait and see if any first class seats are still available.

Most of these tickets are set to couch. and if you want first class they will buy it back at cost and charge you first class at full price for that day. you can check on this over the phone. sorry i tried before hope you have better luck than I did.
