Dogs do not go to the bathroom.
Dogs defecate and urinate wherever and whenever they feel they need but generally not on or around where they sleep.
People use the bathroom.
People prefer it if their dogs defecate and urinate outside - usually in the garden.
A six week old puppy has no idea that this is what people expect - the puppy needs to be TRAINED.
This involves a lot of patience and perseverance.
Anticipate your dogs needs.
Take it outside frequently particularly when it has just woken up.
If you have her outside for half an hour and she didn't do anything then YOUR timing was wrong.
If YOU time it right the puppy will do what it needs to do outside. PRAISE IT.
When it makes a mess in the house, IGNORE the dog and clean the mess up using a deodoriser from the Vet or pet shop.
If YOU get the training right the puppy will soon learn that it gets praised when it does it outside and ignored when it does it inside. Puppies like attention therefore its better to do it outside. Simple.
I would never scold a puppy for relieving itself in the house when it is totally unaware that it is doing anything wrong - it isn't.
It is up to you to observe your puppy, anticipate its needs and, by being fair and consistent, teach it a behaviour that you want.

They have small bladders and at that young of an age cannot control it until they are around 12 weeks of age. Just be consistant when taking the puppy outside and as soon as it does go give it more time in case it has to go again. As far as it going in the house dont give it a big area to roam around it, make sure you have puppy pads and stuff put down to protect the carpet so your house wont stink from accidents.
When you "punish" the puppy becareful because it may think its being punished for going to the bathroom not relizing its being punished for going on the floor.....it may start hiding its accidents. Do some searches for puppy housetraining there is a lot of good info out there.
Puppy pads or newspaper training is not a good way to train your dog because then they will basically think its okay to go on the floor...
also a dog that young is not marking their territory..lol its just a plain ol puppy with a small bladder/bowel.

Simple answer is, she's way way to young to expect her at 6 weeks old to hold it long. BUT eventually she will get to the point where she will.
If you put boards up or a kennel so she can not mess all around your house but only in a confined and easy to clean space you will take the pressure off you and her until she grows big enough to hold it for a little while.
Focus on bonding and playing until she's a bit older.. say 8-10 weeks.
1. She will need to pee/poop 15 to 20 minutes after eating/drinking and right away when she wakes up.
2. Yell like a banshee when she does wrong.. DO NOT HIT! and take her immediately outside. WAIT... she is not stupid.. she just doesn't know what you want or what she did wrong YET. Be patient!
3. WHEN she pees outside.. praise the dickens out of her.
4. If you praise her when she does right and yell like a banshee when she does wrong.. she'll avoid the banshee yelling and go for the praise. Pretty basic.
5. You also MUST pay attention to her signals. Once she understands what you want she will signal you.
Not all dogs do this the same way. My shih tzu punts my leg... to get my attention. He thinks peeing and poooing is such a great thing.. cause he gets praise even after three years.. I still say "good boy outside.. what a good boy".
My little poodle runs to me.. to the door, to me... to the door.
Each one is a little different so watch for the signs that your doggie is telling you she wants to be "praised". har har

its because she is only 6 weeks old...
crate the pup over night - first thing take it out and go out with it - it will pee - you need to give an instant soft treat reward (while outside with her)
then in for breakfast and back outside - excersice helps stimulate the bowels and most dogs will poop within 20 minutes of eating so again you must go out with her and have that reward ready
back in side she should be good for several hours - but keep an eye on her - even haver her on a leash - as soon as she starts sniffing the ground and circling like she is getting ready - back out and again you must go out too...
keep her in crate when you cannot watch her (the idea that she will not pee or poop in her crate)
feed supper at 6:00 and remove all food at 7:00pm and all water 1-2 hour before bed time - making sure you take her out before bed time so she can go
she is 6 weeks old is is pretty young to be trained - really if you wanted a dog that was trained why would you get a puppy?? even a 12 week old puppy would have been a much better choice
also note the food you feed has a direct relation ship with the amount of poop you get - feeding a grocery level or wal mart food will result in more poops

when you get a puppy you really have take it out every hour and say the same word each time such as pee pee or anything short, make a huge fuss every time she "goes" take her out as SOON as she wakes up and staight after she's had her food. if your puppy runs back in to the house just bring her right back out again untill she produces a "result" NEVER try to punish your puppy if she "goes" in the house this will only scare and confuse your pup. if you keep praising and rewarding the GOOD behaviour in everything it she does well, then you and your dog can only benefit! PLEASE bear in mind that there WILL be "little accidents" because dogs don't have full control of their bladders and such like until they are at least 7 or 8 months old they're all different. so the main things are PATIENCE,PERSISTANCE REWARD and PRAISE the GOOD please ignore the bad and your puppy will respond much better to love and will be eager to please. it's also very worthwhile taking them to puppy classes it has no end of benefits!! a must have book is..THE PERFECT PUPPY ( how to raise a problem free dog ) by GWEN BAILEY it's invaluable, you can get it in the library but if you can ,buy it.. it is not expensive. So good luck with your little dog. have fun with her and remember, love, love, love her!!! it'll be worth it , i promise!!

You need to put newspaper down for the puppy to go on whilst in the house - move the paper each day a little at a time towards the back door. Praise your puppy everytime it goes to the bathroom in the garden and it will understand eventually. Lots of praise when your puppy does what you want it to will encourage your puppy - your puppy wants to please. Remember, your puppy is just a baby, a very young baby so you must have patience.
When the puppy goes to the bathroom in the house, pick it up and take it to the garden and as it grows up it will begin to ask to go outside- please don't be angry with it - you have a friend for life

your puppy is still very young.she probably still does not have strong bladder control. You need to be consistent on when you take her out. She should be taken out right after she wakes up in the morning, 15-20 minutes after she eats and then right before you settle down for the night. My pup was put in a crate at night and at first we would be outside very early in the morning to use the bathroom (4-5 am). Now he goes out at a more reasonable time (7 am). It just takes time, patience and consistency. Always , always praise your dog for doing a good job.

This sounds like a safety issue to the puppy, at the rescue was she only in a indoor run or did she get outside, also did you have pets before who went inside that she could be smelling? She learned from the rescue to go where she smells other animals have gone which is inside and she feels safe. You will just have to retrain her to go outside with lots of rewards.

She is still very, very young, usually puppies are weaned until 8 weeks old, even then they can be hard to train. My uncle taught me a brilliant trick, never known it to fail. Take the dog out for the bathroom on the hour, every hour. When she does something, however small, really, really praise her, make a total fuss of her. When she does nothing, say nothing, do not look at her, do not speak to her, just bring her back in. If she messes in the house, do not tell her off, do not look at her, do not speak to her, just clear up the mess and completely ignore her. If she asks to go out, take her out and tell her she is a good girl, but only when she has done something. Dogs work on feedback, and live for their master to praise them, however, if all they can get is negative responses, they will accept that too, by ignoring her when she does nothing outside, or does something inside is programming her to seek a response from you, which she should do by going when she can outside, and not messing indoors. They really learn very quickly by this method, but you have to be disciplined, on the hour, every hour. For a few minutes, if she hasn't done anything by then, bring her in, if she then messes as soon as you get in, clear up and totally ignore her. Obviously you can't follow this at night, but take her out before you go to bed and first thing in the morning, again, if she has any accidents while you sleep, say nothing, don;t look at her. when you are outside with her, do not speak to her or try to encourage her, just completely ignore her, don't even look at her until she does do something. I promise this works, fast.
