Yes, I cared & still do. I care that all people are treated with dignity & respect--not contempt & disregard. A persons immigration status does not confirm or negate the status as a human being.

I don't think it was a big issue among some ppl, i'm sure some ppl did know and had their views about em, but i think a lot of the population didn't know or care till it made the news and suddenly they made decided that they were gonna follow a crowd without any facts. Personally i don't blame illegals for diminishing wages, unemployment, disease, crime, or federal aid abuse, because these things have always existed. The only thing that illegals are doing is being illegal, the other things have always been an issue wether illegal or not, illegals are just a small factor in those issues. The only thing i wonder is this, once all illegals are gone from the country, and crime, poverty, unemployment, federal aid abuse is still present, what group will we attack and blame these things at. Obviously we are blaming illegals for this problems, so we attack the problems by attacking a group, and once that group is not here, and the problems are, what group will we attack next. It's true, but we are tackling the issues the wrong way, i think it's because our government lets the rich get richer and poor get poorer.

I think 09-11-2001 opened our eyes to the illegal immigration issue. However, we should not confuse Hispanic illegals with terrorists.

First of all, Arab or Muslim people (terrorists or not) stand out like a sore thumb in the southwest. They will not swim the most polluted river in North American to get here.

Hispanic illegals, on the other hand, risk this treacherous river to work, not to cause mayhem and destruction. Lock a terrorist and a Mexican illegal up in the same room and they will kill each other. Their views are diametrically opposed.

The terrorist, if he is sophisticated enough to do any really harm, will come in on a 747 with a passport and visa, or he will cross the Canadian border where he is less likely to be noticed. Sometimes our focus is completely wrong.

If illegal immigration is a problem, then place the blame where it belongs and look for the solution where the solution exists. Hispanic illegals come here because they are victims of their own government. Here they see the promise of the American dream. Take away the government aid and social benefits until they become legal residents, but do not take away their human rights. We all have the right to survive.

Don't hate these people because they come here to survive. They are already victims. They will continue to be victimized by the people who bring them here illegally and by the people they will work for to pay for the American dream.

Yes--Hello--
States were going bankrupt and borrowing from others. Hospitals were going under. Those living on SS-were Having trouble living on their checks-going to Canada for their medicine-cost of living raises were not being met with standards-because their wasn't enough money! It is not an endless pot of gold. Our poor have been crying out. People wondered-why is this happing? Schools were having massive overflow-(check Teacher's chat board). One disaster after another.
You might have those views because your not personally affected or have a family member who is. If you did--you would understand.

I have a suggestion-go volunteer at a state Nursing Home or a VA hospital-and come back and tell us what they say---There are millions of people in every State who need help here and you think it doesn't hurt anyone. I am sure there is one near you-this is everywhere.

You mean well but you have limited knowledge on things. If you understood all the factors -you would know--we are hurting millions. Hurt many to help some-doesn't sound right to me.

ps--What you fail to understand is in the last several years-this has escalated to bigger problems-never did the old have to go Canada for Meds. Our poor are increasing. Never have the schools had such an overcrowds issue-it has been on TV now. The list goes on-one big issue is benefits-look on web where do you see big drains? California-Texas-Arizona had to borrow-where do you think they borrowed from? It is worst and we have too (not want too) cut some of the problems. I'm sorry--we are hurting people we should protect first our poor. You can't feed your neighbors poor and let yours starve--it just not right. Now if no one uses those benefits and schools and health-it would be different. But too many need it.

I've always thought it was wrong. Even before the issue became so promenade in the news. I work in a school and have to face issues with illegals every day. It's not fair to put a child who speak no English into a school and expect the teachers to delay the education of the English speaking children so we can teach the Hispanic ones. Don't even try to convince them that bilingual schools are the right answer, because they never agree to it. Besides that, parents can't help their children with any of the homework because they can't read English. If I went to live in some other country, you bet your azz I'd try to learn the language as best I could, obey all the laws and obtain what necessary stuff I needed to be there. None of this sneaking over and demanding stuff. What would the Mexican government do to me if I tried to come into Mexico and set up house? I'd get my azz kicked out so fast your head would spin.

I think we were all happy that good Mexican restaurants were popping up in small town USA. I think that we tried to ignore the fact that our inner cities were deteriorating at an alarming rate. We knew it was happening but were afraid to speak up in fear of being labeled a racist. I had no Idea how serious the problem was until it was on the news. I just thought that It was a problem in Pennsylvania with Puerto Ricans and the southwest with the Mexicans. I grew older and traveled more and I started to see more and more Latinos. I don't think we cared until we started seeing bilingual signage and encountered more and more people that didn't speak English. It is now in our face, and the immigration issue is one of the most important issue concerning the US and Europe. The debate is a passionate one. There are so many on both sides that feel strongly about their opinions. Something needs to be done that is fair to the American People. I guess I feel strongly about this issue because I have traveled alot, seen the beautiful world we live in, and still thank god that I live in the USA. I have had ancestors fight and die in every war ever fought in this country's history, you could say i am a patriot and proud of my western heritage. We nee to protect it by demanding that the immigrants follow our ways and laws.

Yes I was aware of some of the problems of illegals entering our country. What I wasn't fully aware of was the financial burden on our country due to this. When my taxes kept elevating along with my health insurance going thru the wall, I started questioning how and why Hospitals are going bankrupt as well as many other social programs going down the tubes. So doing the math, I realized that at this pace, we are all going to go bankrupt unless things change....might sound wierd but I would like to retire one day.....my real worry is for my own Grandchildren that will have to pick up the tab of our countrys burden. My kids didnt get any freebies because I make too much.....LOL.....the illegals made more money UNDER the table than my kids working part time jobs while going to college...go figure...so am I to tell them its OK to do something wrong and get rewarded for it???.....so much for trying to bring ones children up the right way...teach them right from wrong and to obey all the laws, and they see people breaking the law and people here think its OK???....and one other note....When the original problem (lack of jobs) was addressed and they continue to pour over the border with new excuses (jobs we wont do) when do we wake up and realize that we just make it tooooo easy for them?? ONE more note = to those that are brainwashed into thinking this country will fold due to them being kicked out are on some serious Meds...our economy will fold due to helping too many illegals out and that takes MONEY.

Living in Southern California and having no neighbors that speak English kinda opens your eyes a little to the problem. Yet I do not agree with "Throwing them out", I do think something needs to be done.
When we moved to this town in 1985 it was NOT like this. Even the Elementary school now sends home the News letters in Spanish!

People who live in states along the border between the US and Mexico have generally been aware of various immigration issues even before it got so much coverage on the news. It's a bit pathetic to see opportunistic politicians (I know, redundant) grabbing on to this issue specifically and claiming they are close to having it solved because they think it will redeem them in the eyes of their constituents. Don't believe them. There are virtually no simple answers when it comes to America's illegal immigration problem, and anyone who claims it's actually quite simple is trying to sell you something, and lying either to themselves, you the public, or both.

yes - because the area I lived in had a huge influx of
foreign people. No one was saying anything but you could see that the neighborhoods were changing

it has only been in the last year or so that people have started to become concerned about this invasion (for lack of a better word)

ILLEGAL immigration has been a MAJOR problem where i live, and HAS BEEN for many years now!!!! ILLEGALS are the cause of my state going BROKE,because they've been DRAING our social and medical services for years!!!
I live in a border state, and we have had to put up with this CURSE for as long as i can remember!!!! The ONLY reason that the rest of the U.S. is aware of it now, and it HAS become such a big issue,is because of the ILLEGALS protest marches!!! They put THEMSELVES in the limelight, and NOW the rest of the U.S.,sees what's been REALLY happening here!!!!

Do i care?? HELL YES!!! As a taxpayer, i care VERY MUCH!!!! When i see these ILLEGALS in the grocery store using their food stamps, paid for by the TAXPAYERS,you'd better belive,I CARE!!! When i see these ILLEGALS using our medical system, and i know that because of THEM and others like them, that's why MY hospital insurance premium's are so HIGH, HELL YES,i care!!
When i see ILLEGALS flying their ugly flag while marching on U.S. streets?
You'd better belive,I CARE!!!!!
