Ever since I was little, I've been really scared about death and dying, not of my own death, but death of a close friend or relative. Is this normal for a seventeen year old girl? Why do you think I have these constant fears?

Those who are extremely anxious about death should seek the help of a therapist, and those with mild cases of the fear of death (Thanatophobia or Thantophobia) may be able to help themselves with a self-study program, such as "Vanquish Fear & Anxiety in 24 Hours," which is available at http://www.changethatsrightnow.com/fear_anxiety_program_hc.asp

I feel the same way, I fear all the time my mother is going to die and I am 27 years old. I have never really had to face a death (yet) of a close loved one or friend (came close this weekend). I have been around death all my life (father is an embalmer) and I am not afraid of my own death. I am afraid of others just like you.

Fear is very normal at your age, fear of the future, and who will be there to live it with you. All I can say is you may never lose this fear. All you can do is not let it consume you. A little fear never hurt anyone but if you get to the point where it affects your life and choices then get help. You should not let any fear interfere with your life. You only have one life and you must live it everyday. Don't let the fear of death stop you from living life!

Yes it is normal. Almost everyone go thru this at one time or another. I am over 30 and I still sometimes have the fear. But I have lost alot of close people friends and family. That just set us back. Try to spend as much time as you can with the people you love, and if you can not see them at least give them a call even if only to say I Love You. It will make you feel a little better. And must realize that no matter what you do, if it is their time, then it is. That is a hard thing to swallow but it is true and I think I cope better in life knowing that. It does not make me happy but everyone knows I love them and that I would do anything I could for them.
I sure hope you can find the peace inside yourself.

Fear is a very strong emotion..taking energies from you, which could be used in a much better direction. Somewhere in the past, there has been a severe emotional experience which has been implanted into your minds storehouse. When you allow your mind to go into that area, that stored emoton becomes a trigger. It generates an immediate fear.. Perhaps you need to consider the removal of that trigger.

Yep it's normal. I think that the best way is education. Learn more about it. Spiritually and factually. Your fear will not completely disappear because self preservation is an inherant human trait, but it will diminish significantly.

well i think it's better to have a more understanding of death.
death isn't the end. wether you believe in heaven or afterlife, death isn't the end.
death is a new beginning. it's a cycle of life and death.
well i hope with understanding, you can overcome your fear =)

may be you have a specific trauma of losing someone you love ?

it is normal to fear death, but you need to talk to some people about their own experiances. for instance, maybe the oldest people in your family can help you deal with your issues, they are there to teach the youngest generation, and would love you to ask how they have dealt with their lives.

I will give you a tip but i would rather that you take this in serious. it's better for you. tell all this and even how you feel right now to a ministrant or a priest. he will guide you and you will no longer have fear that makes you waste energy. good energy. he will keep everything in secret, don't even doubt it. go whenever you want.
