most of the inventions till date tend to acc. the global warming
the main reason is green house gases. but if new techniques r developed then it my be prevented.

Here's a point that no one is considering. We don't have enough evidence to prove or disprove the idea of global warming. We haven't had recordable data dating back far enough to determine if this is a natural trend in the earth's weather cycles or not. We've only had recorded temperatures...in the US anyways...that date back 100 years...maybe 150 years. Meteorology in the early 1900's was pretty much, "oh crap! there's a storm coming!" In the past century we've learned how storms operate in our fluid atmosphere, we've learned how to predict those patterns with the help of satelite imagery. I've read alot of studies on the research of global warming. The first thing you need to remember when you research it is that you are reading from a credible scientist. Al Gore is not a credible scientist...Al Gore is a man who can't stand to be out of the spotlight, same with Micheal Moore and most of the other Greenwing fanatics that you see on TV hailing that the world is coming to an end. Here is what we know:

Global temparatures over the past century have increased about an average of one or 2 degrees celsius. There is your global warming effect that everyone is worried will turn us into venus.

The problem that concerns scientists is that we know that CFC's (Chloroflourocarbons) build up in our atmosphere. Basically what happens is that they float into the Ozone (ozone is a molecule of Oxygen made of three Oxygen atoms hence it is called O3). When CFC's and O3 come into contact with each other this is what happens...actually whenever Carbon and Oxygen come into contac with each other...the carbon and oxygen start to combine to make either CO2 or CO. That isn't the bad thing. The problem is that to make the CO2 (which plants would recycle into O2) the Carbon has to take 2 of the Oxygen atoms from the O3...and when it does that you are no longer left with O3. That is why our Ozone layer is dissappearing.

And there are other real problems...we tend to wrecklessly tear through and use up our natural resources such as fossil fuels, lumber, etc. The stuff you see in movies and the stuff you see on TV are fictions...we won't realistically see most of it in our lifetimes...in our childrens or grandchildrens lifetimes...but one day the human race will pay the price...if that is...we can't find a way to be more efficient.

Want to know what we could do? On the large scale...Solar Power...its something we could all take advantage of. "Well the sun isn't always shining..." while this is true it's a misnomer that Solar Energy only works when the Sun is shining. At all times light from the sun is hitting the face of the earth. Which means that photons are colliding with the Solar panel causing an electric current. With current tech. Batteries could be made to holdover while the panel can't produce enough of a charge to meet energy needs. Even if that isn't the case. If every home had Solar Energy. It would deal a huge blow to our dependence on Natural Gas and Coal for power. If the solar panels could handle the power load even during peak hours...the amount of CFC's released into the air would be greatly reduced.

I think that to prevent global warming from happening we need ease down on what we are currenently doing in the next decade. I don't see that happening unless some amazing invention is brought forth that could redeuce the co2 emission or give us an safe renewable source of energy. If science continues to go in the pace that it currently is accelerating at, i think we should be fine, but it is going to be a really close call.

I personally think by the time science come up with somethink, it will be too late and our best escape will be space stations.

Science advances our knowledge. It does not exacerbate problems. Economic, social and political motivations use the products of science for good or bad. Science will not accelerate or prevent global warming. In this case, the direction of global warming will be dependent on the factors I described above.

You answer actually relies on the politicians.
Unfortunately, Scientists have valid answers that can be put to use now.

If the USA complies with the solutions of global warming. Nobody else will. China, the worlds major source for junk products spews out thousands of tons of pollutants. Then you have Mexico, Taiwan, India.... And even then the USA and the rest of the world have valid pollutants, like clean exhaust, and that is still dirty.

So let's get back to the politicians. Unless you put a flame under their as$, blackmail them with some sex crime, or put a pile of cash in their pocket, plans for curing global warming will not happen in the near future.

Just like the stem-cell research. Politicans are stupidly informed as in this article http://thinkprogress.org/2006/07/15/distorting-stem-cell-research/ Politicians are no where near smart as rocket scientists, but many scientists are, and the rest of the scientists are very smart anyhow.

You ask, "Will science accelerate or prevent global warming? "
ANSWER: They can, but no, it won't happen. Thanks G.W. Bush.

Science will and has tried to prevent Global Warming. Period!!

Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters.. A secret report, suppressed by US defense chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world

A Secret Pentagon report on global warming said it was worst than we thought. And Bush lied. He opposed Kyoto and he has been a pro-energy company, anti-global warming president and lied about doing anything positive about global warming because he never believed in it.

The UK Observer in February (2004) contained an article which spoke of a secret report from the Pentagon warning of rioting and nuclear war and the threat of global warming and consequences of it will be greater than terrorism.levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere - the main "green- house gas" causing climate change - were already 50 per cent higher than at any time in the past 420,000 years. The last time they were at this level - 379 parts per million - was 60 million years ago during a rapid period of global warmingLevels soared to 1,000 parts per million, causing a massive reduction of life.

"No ice was left on Earth. Antarctica was the best place for mammals to live, and the rest of the world would not sustain human life,"

if the world did not curb its burning of fossil fuels "we will reach that level by 2100".

I am perhaps the wrong one to ask on this in view that I strongly believe that global warming is a natural occurance just as the ice age was a natural occurance. The human race/animals will have to adapt to a warmer climate which will last for X number of years and something else will change ecologically

It depends on which direction the scientific progress takes - there are steps which can actually accelerate global warming; but steps which can avoid abnormal warming of the planet can also be taken with the help of science!

I don't think science itself will accelerate anything although technology has done both, accelerated the process through the invention of fossil fuel burning engines etc. etc. and technology has also developed cleaner burning engines etc. etc. to decrease the harmful greenhouse gasses, but it comes down to people and greed as it costs money to install cleaner burning engines and such. In the end it is the stockholders that need to be appeased so a cost analysis is performed and the world usually looses out to greed.

Let me begin by saying SCIENCE is used to make one country advanced in technology but science doesnt seem to apply in preventing global warming as yet!

Science has produced enough evidence to warn us about the threat of global warming with research and developement. However, the the attitude of some people (social science) need to change too in order to curb global warming in the future.

Majority of people has pre-conceived idea when it comes to global warming. Many disregard scientific facts, datas, trend and reports by environmentalists and scientists. On the contrary, they too consumed with political idelogy, lifestyle, power, money and belief. It is human nature when someone from different group wants to address issues to the general public, few would oppose it.

This is what happening with the Americans in general. If Al- Gore is trying to make a point, majority from Republicans will reject him vice versa. Al Gore's documentary might have flaws and lack of scientific evidence even to sound like a propaganda movement by Democrats. However, he has a few points too!

For years scientists have warned how the Earth is heading for danger of warming up even faster and human activities accelerating it too. Moreover, many industrialize countries/politicians admit they/we need to do something about it. However, scientists are having hard time to convince public to have faith in science. The main reason is everyone has their own problems to deal with in every day basis. In addition, economic growth, profit, business and status quo are their main agenda to maintain and protect. Thus, people tend to ignore science and pollute the air even more! People dont care because they dont see the sign with their own eyes. Plus, they dont take time to study and educate themselves.

Science is useful to lead society and nation into industrialization but fail to make people in majority aware about global warming and its danger!

3 species of polar bears are increasing in numbers. the photographs you spot are designed to impress a reaction. they are component of nature. there's no longer something occurring there out of the traditional. there is not any catastrophic worldwide warming led to by capacity of human pastime. Arctic sea ice has bigger in recent times and is at 1979 ranges, the utmost point considering the fact that 2001 and close to the long term accepted. Earth is effective and there is no longer something you're able to do approximately that. did you recognize we kill polar bears? whilst the bears blend with a human habitat and vice versa the bears are specifically situations killed. yet once you're nevertheless nervous approximately worldwide warming the only nicely suited component you may do to decrease CO2 emissions is to no longer have a toddler. a woman will improve her carbon footprint 20 situations by capacity of having baby.
