I don't mind my Nigel not, mixing with gays, foreigners, old people or church-goers but he's now taken up a with the middle class boy who's father owns the wine bar. Their values are not my values I must say but Nigel not, says I'm a snob and 'getting on' is what every family except us is trying to do. Is that true?

I know a man who owns 3 liquor stores, he is very well known, high class and very much liked by every one. Don't judge the son by what the father does you need to meet the parents, you may find out that you are very wrong for thinking the way you do. People start business, and if it fills the needs of what people want, then that's what they give. It doesn't place them in any sort of class. I think as long as my kids friends are good to them, and not into drugs and and not trying to push bad things on them then they are ok. I think instead of saying it isn't ok to mix with these other people you should try to open his eyes to see that just because someone is not the same as you or doesn't have the same beliefs as you does not mean they are not ok to hang around with. Which is your own perogative, but I think you are just helping him shut his eyes more.

Let him evolve naturally and don't be such a ball crushing dominant mother who has obviously had it hard and now your trying to mould your Nigel's development to suit your own long lost ego.

He is rejecting you by mixing with middle class, the reason being that he is ashamed of you for being from a common back ground. Find someone who will accept you for what you are and happy in your company.

Why is it ok for him to not mix with gays, foreigners, old people or church goers? If he wants to be "getting on" with people that should mean EVERYONE. It seems intolerant all around truthfully.

I don't object to the Intolerance... That's obvious.
I don't object to the fact that you're propogating it to the next generation.
I don't object to you having ANY Standards for your own children.
I do object to the way that you deny her the ability to "find her own way". On any subject or criterion.
That's one of the hardest things to get right.
How old is your NIGEL... if she's 18... You need to get out of her way.

Hell no! Say NO to drugs! Alcohol is a drug and he is a minor!!!
By the way, you both would do much better going to church! You will be able to find answers on how to protect and guide your children. Obviously, you don't have any sound judgement now.

I'd say meet the peopel he knows, don't be overbearing, but try and get to know them. If your inner alarm goes off, tell him they make you uneasy, if you like the people he's around, tell him. But try and get to know the people he's with.
Just a thought.

Love him, be there for him and accept him, he is a big boy now, time for you to expand your ethos and philosophical beliefs. Grow together, not apart. I hated my mother and then she died, wish i could have had a mother that was also my friend.
