There are plenty of Americans who are converting to Islam. You can listen to them at Google Video what they have to say.

Muslims have 6 main beliefs

Belief in Allah as the one and only God.
Belief in angels.
Belief in the holy books.
Belief in the Prophets...
e.g. Adam, Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Dawud (David), Isa (Jesus).
Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final prophet.
Belief in the Day of Judgement...
The day when the life of every human being will be assessed to decide whether they go to heaven or hell.
Belief in Predestination...
That Allah has already decided what will happen.
Muslims believe that this doesn't stop human beings making free choices.

My personaly experience is that there is no other religion as perfect as this because the above are just some beliefs but when you read the QURAN you will find it out yourself how much pure this religion is. Dont judge Islam according to what people have to say, you read and gain knowledge yourself and than judge, infact i have not ever seen such pure perfect religion in my life. One of the gifts for the converts from ALMIGHTY ALLAH is that they are forgiven all their past sins and we can start all over again. we are like a newly born innocent baby with no sins committed. This itself is a great reward. So i am not only happy but very happy to choose Islam as my religion.

Moreover the estimates of total number of Muslims range from 0.7 to 1.2 billion worldwide and 1.1 to 7 million in the U.S. 3 About 21% of all people on earth follow Islam. The religion is currently in a period of rapid growth.

Christianity is currently the largest religion in the world. It is followed by about 33% of all people -- a percentage that has remained stable for decades. If current trends continue, Islam will become the most popular world religion sometime in the mid-21st century.

Salam alaykom, i have already compared islam with other religions including witchcraft and still comparing to know the true. I am very open minded in seeking all criticism about islam, very eager to find even just one flaw, and that's it, end...But till now, for about 30 years since i accepted islam as my religion, i find it the most logical and practical and can be proven truthful. It's so practical that even those intellects, the priest, nuns, pastors in other religion are converting to islam. Scientist, investigative journalist, military people, former musicians, movie artist as well as ordinary people who like to see a harmonious society are professing islam.
What the critics scoff on the muslims as female circumcision, inhumane treatment to women, war mongers, pedophile are groundless and are purely cultural. It is not islam itself. They haven't realized that it was islam that started to allow women to own property of their own, to have a voice in community, and many more.
I have witnessed personally muslim convert who left islam but not because of the teachings but his economic status didn't improve, so superficial. But he said he still acknowledge the 5 pillars of islam, he just can't perform it by then. He was not killed because he left. We just let him be, and even invite him occassionally for verifications on some reports he made as treasurer before in a muslim organization.
To recommend islam, well, if society would just want to maintain morality and not be destroyed by their sins, vices, alcohol, exploitations, barriers between the very rich and the very poor, sexually transmitted diseases, corruptions, injustices, competition of women among themselves in getting the attentions of men, etc. Islam is the only hope. Because it is a complete way of life. The spiritual enlightenment laws are in harmony with other laws such as economics, social, environmental and other laws that is for the development and maintenance of justice and harmony among society, be it populated by different religion.
Some may say that any religion is antiquated., it is the modern world now. But why then can't behavioral scientist formulated an effective social norm to keep its inhabitants "civilized"? Some may say religions are the causes of wars, but the fact is, wars get started without religion making its part. What religion did was to unite the believers into a masse ready for any action.
Although not all those who professed a faith is that "civilized' , but consider it would be more worst if that person had no sense of fear or belonging to a certain standard. Religion, even if there is no God , is the only practical solution for world order, peace, justice. For me, islam is the most practical
