I volunteered at a children's hospital in the cancer unit for a year and a half. It was the best time I had in years and very rewarding, but, I also burned out and had problems in dealing with the children being so sick and dieing. Would I have a second thought of volunteering if I knew then what I know now. NO it was a fulfilling and rewarding time. If you can't deal with people being sick volunteer at an old folks home or animal shelter.

I do and I love every minute of it. I volunteer at a children's hospital in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Most of the babies we get are very sick and need a lot of love. Sometimes I get to hold the babies who are more stable. I work closely with the child life specialist to develop activities, decorate the unit and help the families celebrate the holidays. I also help out during the sibling care time. This is provided so that the volunteers will watch and play with siblings while the parents can go back and spend time with their baby. The parents and families are so appreciative of the volunteers. It makes me feel like I am making a real difference in the lives of people who are in very difficult and trying situations. Overall, I would highly recommend a hospital volunteer service.

My grandmother was a pink lady after my grandfather died. I believe it helped her to stay active and gave her a sense of accomplishment. Perhaps one day when I have more time I will consider doing the same thing. right now with school, work and kids, I don't have the time.

I used to, but now I can't handle a double load of homework (final year of schooling, 3 months left) and working, I tend to do better committing to one thing rather than two things. But it was a very fun and yet enjoyable experience
