Is '72 virgins' and '6-year-old wife' the extent of our 'knowledge' of Islam?

To Bouncing_molar and huda_d, since you asked I actually live in a Muslim society, have read the Qur'an and studied Islam in university. My question is about the people, as a whole, on Y!A. But it's easier to call people stupid, isn't it?

My knowledge of Islam is too small to fully understand it. I have read the Quran, to me it is almost the same as the Bible, a book filled with stories about a God, prophets, Love and all sorts of allegories which can be interpreted in many ways.

As i try not to mix Christianity with politics, i also try not to mix Islam and politics.

Reading Jim_Darwins answer scares me, as it shows me how much America mixes Islam with politics. It shows me how much the western world looks at Islam as the oppresser, the terrorists, instead of looking at Islam as a religion. All i can answer to that is that i can fully understand how any Muslim nation can see the USA as the oppresser.

Moving from Holland to Romania made me see that going 'East' brings me in a society where morals and values hold a higher value than 'pure freedom'. I can only guess how that would work if i went even further 'East'.
I truly don't know which is better, and 'better' shouldn't even matter. I can see that the Muslim world has a long way to go when it comes to 'pure personal freedom'. I can also see that the western world has made that freedom a too important standard of living. It ruined a lot of important morals and values.

The world is a multi-colored place, with much more colors than we, western people, can even begin to understand. The muslim people that i met and know in my own world, are more open-minded respectfull people than most of the christians i met in that same world.

Well people tend to missunderstood about Islam through this fact..Prophet Muhammad did marry aisyah whom was 9 at tht time but hav intimate relationship with her when she had reached her puberty..anyway, the 72 virgins is like a reward to people who is pious enough to gain such reward (this also stated in bible, i read it as for a knowledge of other people religions, so tht i can respect to other people religions and be sensitive about their need)..I hope people do the same with Islam..it doesnt mean if u learn about islam u want to convert into it but to enlighten us about why certain thing can be done in islam and y certain cant..

Accept people the way they are not what we want them to be..

anyway, if u read between the line and throughly bout Quran n bible..well it almost the same..it just people tend to change few rules in bible..world peace

According to the Koran, Islam is the religion of peace. It preaches tolerance of other peoples' views and beliefs. However, in the exact same book it says that if one person or a group of people can't be converted it's okay to wipe them out via jihad.

Islam isn't the great religion that the libs want us to believe it is, if it was all of the non-radical Muslims would stand up and condemn all terrorist acts around the world.

Actually I believe that Muslims are a lot like Christians. Some good some bad. There are many who try earnestly to live devout faith filled lives and I have to admire the womens belief in practicing modesty.

You know, "72 virgins" could be a mistranslation of a scribal error - it might actually read "72 white dates"! Imagine a man's surprise when he gets to [heaven] and, expecting pretty girls, instead finds a bunch of fruit!

The ones who are supposed to get the 72 virgins in paradise are the ones who die for their religion/ country, aka suicide bombers. What a religion of peace. A supposed reward for killing yourself and others.

From what one sees on the news there is also suicide-bombing and hatred of the Jews in there too.
