I gather there is a temporary railway (train) station there at the moment. Initially I thought they planned to build 4 modest sized towers but now i hear that they are going to attempt the tallest building in the world? Is this true? can the usa afford this?

hi patia, the official english language spelling of centre is spelt re at the end I believe. Anyway thanks for the answers people and don't mind about the people joking. To be honest I never really liked the old world trade centre but i am sad to see it gone, but i think I don't think they should replace it, but build something better and go with the times, how about you make it a environmentally friendly building while you are at it. Also it could be one of the worlds safest with a huge water tank at the top which could be released in the event of fire.

See this is sad. The greatest tragedy of your generation, and people are making jokes. I guess it is easy when you only had to watch it on TV and didn't have to stand knee deep in death.

Just so everyone knows they are building the Freedom Towers. I originally thought that they should rebuild the original, but I like the idea of Freedom Towers. They are planning on making them the tallest in the world, and the higher the better I say. As for the cost, it is not coming at the expense of the American people, cause it will rent out quickly and make lots of money.

I agree with sgtextreme -how can people make jokes about such an autrocity - I watched it on the TV as i live in the UK but still heartbreaking to watch! my partner lost two work colleagues in that so lets stop with the jokes -time and a place for jokes and this isn't one of them.. now back to the question : I believe it will be replaced by freedom tower in remembrance to those who lost their lives..

I think they're going to build "Freedom tower" - however, Donald Trump has criticised the proposals, and wants the World Trade Centre recreated, bigger and stronger as a symbol of defiance.

They're building the Freedom Tower. It is 1776 feet tall. Why they are not just rebuilding the WTC is beyond me. I don't think we should allow terrorists to reshape Manhattan's skyline. If they knock it down, we should show them they are inconsequential cowards and put whatever it is right back up ASAP.

Since it's American, they'll probably build a theme park and have Disney run it. Instead of gay guys dressed like Goofy, they'll be dressed like bin Laden instead.
