What is the cause of the alopecia. You have to deal with the cause in order to find the solution to it. Go to the doctor and have some simple tests done to make sure the endocrine function is OK and then see what other options there may be.

sound silly, but look at your fingernails.
If you have pitted fingernails then your alopecia may be difficult to treat.
If it is a stress related thing and doesn't run in your family then extra vitamins and steroid lotions may help, though I believe alopecia areata is still untreatable.
I will be watching for other answers because my daughter lost all her hair at aged fourteen and there has never been any treatment offered since (she is now 22).
Good luck, go see the best dermatologist you can find.

i have alopecia areata and there is no treatment for me so my doctor told me if i wore hairties to wash them often and boil your brush as much as you can and keep your pillow cases washed and your blankets. since i have done that i only have 1 bald spot and its starting to grow hair on it so this works for me..GOOD LUCK!
