i have been around a lot of dogs and i would say i agree with you. my boyfriend and i adopted a pit mostly unintentionally from someone that was having trouble with drugs. she is the best dog i have ever had. all she does is follow me around and she loves to cuddle and hide under the blanket when i sleep. that and she loves going on runs with me. when i got her i realized how many people out there just have the wrong idea about pit-bulls. i have never had a more caring and patient dog - especially around kids.

Really, it just depends on the dog and the owner. Many people have diffrent dogs and they say, oh well my dog is the best. I really think Labrador Retrivers are goood dogs. I have a black one named Zoey but I used to have an American Pit Bull, she was white with black on her, (mixed with great dane) , that dog was like, the craiziest dog I have ever had besides Zoey. Maggie, that was her name, every morning she'd bring us home a presant , a bird, a skunk once, or well, she smelt like one since she killed a baby one and hid it behind our neighbors tree! or a mouse. She was my dog, as a kid so guess who had to clean it up!!!! talk bout' nasty. But she was such a great dog, even though before her I thought Pits were mean, but when I got her, she just changed my whole veiw on them. Really the are great dogs they just need to be well trained and very much loved.

I've owned a lot of pets over the yrs...and an animal will protect its pack (family) and territory to the end. My pitti Sammygurl, was a tan/brindle and if someone came to the door and i said hi c'mon in, she would lick them to death and do the squiggle bum dance. But, if I answered the door, yes can i help you, then u were taking your life in your hands. She would let the kids crawl all over her...and slept under their cribs. She passed away when she was 8 from hip degeneration. I now own 3 cats, and the oldest, a male orange tabby named Simon, weighs about 15 lbs. Usually, he is very mild-mannered, sleeps by my feet while I'm on the computer. This one time, my sister's white shepherd came for a visit. He charged into the room to see me, and Simon went ballistic. His hair puffed out, his tail looked like a bullrush, and he literally leaped into the dog's face. WOW!!! He hissed and spit until the dog went yelping down the hallway. Then he stood guard at my door. I got him from the SPCA when he was about 2, so i didnt train him to do it, he did it to protect his mom.

I think any dog that is well cared for and loved, also treated like a member of the family will be loyal, loving and protective of their family. Aren't dogs the best? I like dogs better that most of the people I know.

Has potential. unswerving. and of direction, powerful and has short hair. What purpose will the canines be serving? The boxer is likewise a sturdy one.

Any kind. I have two mix-breeds that would die trying to protect me. One was even adopted when he was 6 or 7, so it's not like I trained him

Akitas? Here is a very touching story about the loyalty of one Akita - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachiko - it is a little long to copy and paste.
