I recently bought a PS2 and I have some PS1 games, well the PS2 console is suppose to be compatable with the PS1 games but I go to play the PS1 games in the PS2 and I get the picture and can play but there is no sound and I can't save the game, my cousin has the same games and he can play PS1 games in his PS2, I have PS2 games also and my PS2 console has no problem playing them, it,s not the discs because I have 3 PS1 games and rented a PS1 game and they all have that problem.
So thinking it was the console I went and bought another PS2 but I still have the same problem, I even got one of the PS1 discs cleaned and It still diden't work.
What could be wrong?
Please help!!!!!!!!!

I doubt many electricians would be able to help you. They're pretty good with house wiring and such, but they don't know much about electronics.

Sounds like a compatibility issue. I believe the PS2 has different outputs. I need to know if you're using the composite or the modulated output before I can offer you any advice.

According to this:

and this:

if you're playing a PS1 game, you need a PS1 memory card to save it to. It can't save to a PS2 memory card. You can plug the PS1 memory card into your PS2 into slot 1. To get a PS1 card, try going to Amazon and using one of their sellers:

Now, as for the sound. I don't know how you have hooked up your cables. You might even try getting a new cable:

PS2 doesn't have a composite output - that's when video and audio signals are all going over one wire. PS2 has AV outputs, which separate the TV signals into 3 wires or more. The cable above has S-video, regular video (yellow plug) and audio left and right (red and white). The back of your TV will have at least one audio input set of plugs - the plugs are about 1/4 inch across with a 1/8 inch hole in the middle and a metal shell outside. They are usually color-coded, so the yellow one is for video-in and the red and white ones are for audio. Make sure that there is a good connection from your PS2 to the audio jacks. If your TV has more than one set of audio jacks, try plugging the PS2 into different ones to see if that works. As a last resort, you may have to go to BestBuy and see if they can help you - I don't know what kind of TV you have and what connections it has, but if the sound works for the PS2 for one thing, it should work for them all.

Does it play CDs and DVDs through your TV?
