She threw up five times yesterday and now she threw up some blood. The only thing she ate all day yesterday was a couple of cookies & she seemed to drink a lot less water than usual.

I'm guessing this has something to do with me giving her some rib bones Friday night. Believe me, I know I'm an idiot. My wife has been telling me for the last 24 hours.

Based on these symptoms, does anybody have a suggestion of what I should do? Should I take her to the vet immediately?

Thanks for the responses. I did as you advised and IMMEDIATELY took her (Bridgette, a beagle) to the vet.

She got some IV fluids, a shot for nausea, x-rays that came back looking pretty good, additional fluids we brought home that we can inject in case she needs it, and $275 later she's back home doing much better. She actually ate her food & drank some water when she got home, so we may not even need these additional fluids.

Thanks again for the advice. No more rib bones for Bridgette.

Sounds like GI upset due to rib bones. Will need to see Vet. May need IV fluids and anti nausea meds. Dogs can die from this but usually they do well with treatment. Hope you dont do it again!

Never, but never give cooked bones to a dog they splinter too easily, raw is best if given any bones do u also feed ur dog greenies, rawhide chews and etc. dogs have died from these and here is the website to tell u more.http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05357/627015.stm
Bloody or projectile vomiting is often associated with viral and bacterial infections, including parvovirus, distemper, leptospirosis and hepatitis. Pain and vomiting can also signal inflammation of the pancreas, which requires drug therapy. It greatly will aid your veterinarian in diagnosing your pet's condition if you can describe anything about the consistency and color of the vomit.

vet. quickly. if the dog is throwing up blood, it's not good. and if you fed her rib bones, that's probably the cause. and idiot though you may be for having done that, at least you know what the problem is. go to the vet and explain what's happened. hopefully it will all turn out ok.

good luck

Okay, the rib probably cut something on it's way down, and got stuck. Your dog is trying to remove it from her system. She could choke, so why are you wasting time on yahoo when you should be taking your dog to the vet?

YES! Something is wrong! Get her to a weekend vet clinic right away. Unless you want to possibly wake up to a dead dog.

Yes, take her to the vet right away! Healthy dogs don't vomit blood, and from what you describe, there is definitely something wrong with your dog.

Take her to a vet this instant. Blood coming out of any orifice is never a good sign.
