We have an exstremely lovable peach faced love bird which we hand fed as a chick. He has a tendency off getting on our shoulders, hair, etc. and loves to give "kisses". I know there has to be a better exsplanation for this "kisses" than emotions. Can anyone tell me what it means when birds give these kisses?

Is it your only bird? If it is, he probably thinks you're part of his flock. He's showing you love...awwww..

It really is a kiss, only a bird kiss is slightly different from our kind of kiss. In the wild any parrot including lovebirds, grab thei mates beak with their beak gently and then let go as a sign of affection its the birds way of showing they love you and accept you as their mate, my senegal parrot, and goffins cockatoo do it, and my dads african grey takes it a step further and regurgitates for him, thats the highest sign of affection a bird can give you, it means they love you and accept you as a mate or favored person. My cockatoo, and senegal regurgitate for me and a few other members of the family. The kiss's is really just her way of accepting you as her mate, she is bonded to you and thats her way of saying I love you.

My conure kisses and "kisses" One I think is just her telling you she loves you. It's like she really softly opens her beak on your skin and uses the tongue to clean you. That's how I always think of it, she's trying to clean me. She also gives loud, wet kisses, and little pecks. lol. When I have her on my shoulder I always kiss her back and she started making that smacking sound. Now when I pick her up she walks up to my cheek, puts her beak closed on it and makes that loud smacking. It's hilarious.
