It sounds like one of two things or both...either someone has abused her to the point where she is afraid, she has sustained an unjury, or both. Keep your eyes open!

1.When cats are injured or sick alot of times they don't want to do the things they used to do. Take her to vet and see if anything is wrong. 2.Also, if you pick her up every five minutes or just pet her alot, she might just be tired of being fussed over and wants some time to herself.3. As cats mature, their personalaties often change. I have a cat, Minnie, who used to be terribly frightened of strangers. Now, she lets strangers pet her, if she's in the mood.
4. If she's been really scared or tramatized by something, perhaps she feels scared when you pick her up. Take her to a vet or a pet physiciatrist, they can usually tell if something is emotianally wrong with her.

Josey,
It sounds to me like your cat is in some pain if she is cranky and meowing alot. Is it possible your cat has been hurt (internally) without your knowing about it? If your cat persists in the meowing, I suggest taking her to the vet as soon as possible. I have 8 cats and have never experienced this kind of reaction from any of them. slparrott2000

If you have had her for a while and she enjoyed being held before and if nothing has happened to hurt or scare her that she can associate with you, she may be just beginning to assert her cat independence. All cats have this independent streak and as they grow older they will demand their right to it. She probably wants to play. Or she may have decided she preferred sleeping in a particular spot. As long as she is healthy and playful is eating well and seems otherwise adjusted don't worry, you and your kitty will get to know each others quirks and preferences. If you are still worried, by all means take her to your vet. That is always a right choice!
Good luck with your baby and enjoy her silliness!

Is she an indoor cat or an outdoor cat? Could be a number of reasons but I would definitely take her to the vet as it could be an internal injury or something more serious yet to be uncovered.

Im not saying that you did, but maybe something traumatized it...
Or, he is just sooo hyper, that he wants to run around and play, and not be all snuggly
My cat is like ur cats TWIN
every time my cat is in a "hyper" mode, he will meow and squirm out of my hands, only becuase he wants to be active
Have fun ;-)

Cats like to stay in your arms when *they* want to. Don't ever hold a cat down or make her/him stay (this will make them avoid you even more!) You can coax a cat to want to stay with you more by playing games with it (bring out the string, toys, and hair-ties for it to play with). Instead of trying to hold the cat, just pet it on the head (if it allows it). If you pat a place and ask your cat to jump up (in a high tone), sometimes they can be trained to jump to different spots that they like (often higher spots).

Calicos are sassy. She may just be going through a phase. My calico used to be really rude and antisocial. Now she loves being held (as long as there's food involved).

There could be a couple of reasons, it could be that she has possibly been abused by someone or that she could have some how hurt herself. Sometimes it is hard for us to tell maybe you should, just incase get her checked out by a vet! i hope that i helped you!

Sounds like a health issue. I would take her to the vet for a check up.
