I am an atheist, I don't get annoyed with anything just because it is Christian to the point of anger. Many Christians do push, they want us all to just suddenly believe because they think our lives will be better. I am happy with my life. Why am I answering in the religion section, well I don't go the sections on the side, I just look at the whole list. Because I am an atheist doesn't mean I can't hold a discussion. The key to tolerance and acceptance of others beliefs is learning about them, not just condemning them because you have them labeled. Alot of these questions also have atheist in them, so I read them as I think they might be of interest. I don't believe in God but I do like learning new things, religion of any kind is interesting to me, it is a part of our culture. I don't get that first answer as far as us not belonging here because we chose so, not believing doesn't mean you can't discuss religion. That is the kind of comment that angers people.

No offence, but I think you've taken that a little out of context.

Since I write a lot of things that really piss off Christians, I'll be honest with you. I don't sit here typing like a madman wanting to punch my computer screen every time another misguided soul posts about their invisible friend.

I actually think it's kind of funny.

I read the Bible. I know what it contains. The ideas you people come up with about it are a real hoot. I really can't think of a single time I've been angry. Sure, I use phrases like "God loves child molesters", and "Jesus was the son of a whore" just because I get a little sadistic chuckle out of the shock value those phrases have.

To me, the funny part is that I can back up a lot of the crap I say just to amuse myself with scriptures from your own book of bedtime stories. The sad part is that I've been told time and time again by Christians that the scriptures I quote when I post don't even exist. My hatemail is mostly from a veritable who's who list of Christians from the shallow end of the gene pool.

I didn't make this garbage up, Moses did. I just know better than to believe it.

Incidentally, If you're not the pushy type, kudo's to you. Remember that context I was talking about? Any time you post on a public forum, you are likely to be recieved as being pushy or arrogant about your faith (or lack there of in my case). I really wouldn't read too much into it if I were you. People will either accept you or reject you regardless of how nice you are.

Honestly, I wouldn't let it bother you.

I think there are fine distinctions between different people of different groups, which our language fails to capture, sadly.

of course there are lots of christians who are respectful of others beliefs, but at the same time there are lots of other christians who are not. the problem comes when those christians (the second group) say that they speak for ALL christians, and even for GOD. When that arises, then atheists (as well as agnostics, pagans, non-Christians of all sorts) get the sense that christianity as a whole is on the attack.

one thing that you can do is to repudiate whenever you see a so-called christian attacking and disrespecting someone of another religion. In this way, you will slowly but surely change people's image of christians.

By the way, I am a former christian, former missionary, and present agnostic. I have seen both sides and know that both sides get too upset over meaningless remarks.

I can't say how many Christians are like you. What I can tell you is that on this site, there are plenty Christians that are rude, holier-than-thou, condemning, judgmental and hypocritical monsters.

I know that not all Christians are like that, and so do most other non-Christians... for the simple reason that 80% of the people we encounter every day are Christian.

There are people in all groups that are rude and mean. That's because people are individuals that are made mean by factors other than the groups of people to which they belong.

Perhaps it is because many Christians do actively push their religion onto others.

Personally, I am constantly inundated with people telling me how I need to convert and be a good Christian ... and how they know the truth.

And ... as a side note ... this forum is not for the discussion of God ... it's called Religion and Spirituality ... both terms of which encompass a very wide spectrum of beliefs and topics.

Because some of them do push their beliefs on others, and not just on atheists. I'm not an atheist, but I don't belong to an organized religion either. Some religions actually instruct their followers to go out and proselytize. That's irritating! They're not saving me. My relationship with God is great! She and I get along perfectly well. I don't need a human-created artificial make- believe story to save my soul.

Churches in the West are becoming dens of thieves,
money changers, sellers of religious trinkets and
worldly music. Christ said that you have turned my
House of Prayer into a place of merchandise and
corruption such as the world has never seen.

Repent! Repent!

want to hear from me.

You are so correct! I do not force anyone to seek God because God doesn't need my help. I let my friends know that I am a Christian and if they tell me that they are having problems I tell them what I do in that situation and that usually involves me talking it over with God. I tell them I am more than happy to talk to them more about God if they want to know and I leave it at that and I don't mention it again to them. That, I believe, is how you bring people to God. When people can see in the way that you walk, talk and carry yourself that God is working in your life, it's only a matter of time before they're going to want in on "your secret." lol :) Thank you for asking this question!!

Maybe *most* Christians don't like to spread the word, but there are a very vocal minority who do. It's what the Bible tells us to do.

Also, people tend to draw generalisations about groups of people, based on quite limited experience.
