Has anyone tried to find a link between all religions and beliefs ? Afterall there is some thruth in all what we believe - what would be the universal truth?

Shall we form a study group on Yahoo for this?

You're right. There is a certain commonality of truth in all religions. There's also a new book titled "The Project" which combines ideas from various religions into a composite story of creation. It's a lot more reasonable than anything taught by any religion independantly, and is presented as a somewhat science-fiction type story. The characters in it have fictitious names, but it's not hard to figure out who they represent. If you find this concept interesting and would like to read the book, go to http://www.iuniverse.com/bookstore/book.detail.asp?&isbn=0-595-38805-1 and you can read the first chapter for free. It's really fascinating.

We as humans are naturally religious and tend to seek out spiritual existance in the world...there are a minute few who deny their need for a bigger power in the universe...but none the less the five major religions of the world all have many connections between one another in history...All religions believe in one God and that is probably the biggest factor...universal thruth? We are all connected by God (love)...evil and darkness does not connect anyone in this world or give anyone comfort and peace...we all need love...from one another and God...it keep us sane and protected from the evil...a child who grows up with no one to guide his path resorts to a gang and learns that killing and violence is ok because the gang IS his family...if the child grew up in a loving home in the presence of God, he would most likely love others the way he was taught and prosper in this life. So there is my testimony...think about it

Most, not all, religions base all or part of their faith on a belief in a deity or a panoply of deities.

All of the major religions have a structure based on ethics and doing good, with varying degrees of philosophy thrown in.

Eastern religions, notably Taoism, Buddhism, Shintoism and Confucianism, do not object to persons practicing multiple religions. You can under this philosophy be both a follower of Shinto and Buddhism, as many Japanese are.

The Western religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, tend to demand a more or less exclusive following of their form of religion. Jews and Christians are more tolerant of other faiths than devout Muslims, but many Christians are less typically intolerant.

As a Christian, I believe I can only be saved through Christ, but I feel many followers of other religions may feel they have other avenues open to them.

I don't expect to get the total story in this lifetime.

Yeah, there is a pretty big common thread in all religions. The Egyptian god Horus' life is almost identical to Jesus'. Jesus wasn't the only "savior" to be crucified. There's so many more, but maybe you'd just want to look at the websites instead.

Religion is man's attempt to have a relationship with God.

Jesus Christ is God's attempt to have a relationship with man.
