Why is it that when I ask my older family members what our heritage is they always say American. I undestand being patriotic, but I'm also curious about BEFORE our family came to the US. Why are they being so cryptic?

We do have some Native American in us, but my really older realtives (great grandma and great grandpa) won't even talk about that. It's almost like they're disgraced by it or something. But from what I've been able to find out on my own my family came to America about 150 years ago. So, yeah it's been a while.

I wonder sometimes with some of my kin if they aren't from Mars.
