guess that depends on what ingredients you mean?

As well as which cookery programmes you're referencing...

I think the people who make cookery programmes work hard to design recipes that make you say 'Oh, that sounds nice/simple!' and then, of course, you have to go out and BUY the ingredients!

'River Cottage' is an excellent program - if you just happen to keep chickens, can catch the odd rabbit or two or guddle a good fat trout! Actually, I jest - his cookbook is really superb (but I still have to buy stuff.)

I'm also fond of 'Ready, Steady, Cook!' where the chefs are supplied with £5 worth of sometimes rather random ingredients and have to make a meal out of them.

I used to think the same and get really p***** off with these chefs expecting me to have all these wild and wonderful things to hand, but I think if you build up the basics like herbs and spices and sauces etc,it becomes easier because then all you need to do is shop for your meat n veg etc to have the ingredients for the recipe.Shops are now more varied in their produce due to people being more aware and open minded towards food so this creates demand.Ready,Steadt Cook illustrates my point.Bit of a crappy programme now tho!

Cookery programmes are getting better as the ingredients are more accessible.
