I find it comical when that approach is used on me. Doesn't make much sense. The scary thing is that it must actually work on some people for folks to still be using that tactic.
Isn't this similar to the tactics that some commercial advertisers use to promote their products?
1. Convince someone that they have a problem
2. Instill fear that makes them to want to solve their new-found problem
3. Convince them that other solutions will not work for this problem
4. Offer your solution to their new-found problem
5. Describe the happiness that they will receive after they have used your solution

I was wondering the other day: If the Christian Church didn't say that everyone who wasn't Christian would go to hell (and it does clearly say that), how long ago would it have ceased to exist? When exactly would Jesus have joined the litany of dead-and-buried gods whose fan club just 'withered away'? I figure it would have happened probably beforer the Middle Ages even begun (and thus they wouldn't have begun).
Eternal damnation for non-believers is, I think, the _only_ thing that has brought Christianity this far and kept it alive over 2000 years.
Interesting to think about when people tell you that Christianity must be the right religion because it has the most followers...

Where did you get that information? From the 1930's? Sheese! I haven't heard any damnation and hellfire for 40 years. Oh, I suppose it's still out there but not where I attend. C'mon, catch up with the times.
I suppose you suffered traumatic mental distress because your mother forced you to eat your peas when you were a child.

Are you kidding me. People like that should be dragged out into the street & beaten w/ a rubber hose.
If you have to threaten people w/ entenral damnation, something is definatly wrong with that picutre.

According to the Bible, joining a church will not save you from
damnation. On the other hand, if you love Jesus, then by all
means go to Heaven.

I dont think this is the right way to do it. This one preacher I knew said he did his church differently because he didnt want people to come back because they were forced or threatened to. I think people should come to God because they want to, not because they are afraid if they dont. God just wants a relationship with you, give Him a chance, not for me or anyone else but for yourself. What do you have to lose? Im sorry if anyone has tried to scare you. I hope they meant well. Please just give God a chance though.

That, and the fact that the churches realized a long ago just killing people outright doesn't net them as much cash as converting them. They're all about the long-term tithing these days.

only if you believe it . . but I should add . . it's a human being who's decided you're in for "damnation" . . before you go believing in all that, consider the source . . what makes this guy any closer to God than you are?????????

Offer free e-meter tests. Then tell people they are depressed, and only you can help them, for $200 dollar donation of course.
