Nowadays, the principal or Discipline master don't dare to canned student regardless of what mistake they made. it is a great change from my times where public canning is common scene.
I feel that if there is public canning, the entire school will know what mistake the culpirt have made and it serves a warning purpose to the rest of the student which is a positive thing.
The major setback of public caning is that the student is being shamed in front of the entire school, which actually made him/her feel embrassed. They may have the tendency of skipping class in order to prevent others mocking at them. It can also hurt their pride, imagine yourself being caned in front of the entire school how do you feel.
