Responder judy_r8 is not correct: most sodas have negligible quantities of salt, and none have very much. (Salt has nothing to do with carbonation.) The hazards which arise are:
- If the soda is naturally sweetened, it will have a lot of calories. If you have diabetes, watch out.
- If the soda is artificially sweetened, some sweeteners, in rare cases, affect kidneys.
- Colas contain caffeine. If you can drink coffee, you can drink colas.
Because of the above, sodas should be used in moderation.

As far as I know it doesn't hurt your kidneys. However it's really bad for your weight as each can contains over 100 calories. If you drink a lot of the stuff you can really pack on the pounds.

Cola is not good for health. It will not damage your kidney but it will be very bad for your health. Maybe mineral water or distilled water is a better choice.

The sodium in the soda is bad for you and the carbonated water used to make sodas makes your bones soft over a period of time.

yes, soda has tons of salt in it disguised as carbonation. Salt can not only destroy your kidneys, but cause your liver to malfunction, raising your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. My doctor calls 2 litre coke a stroke in a bottle. sodium, caffeine, and sugar.

Soda isn't good for you, but I don't think it causes kidney disease or stones.
