Which do you think should happen to prevent illegals from entering US?

Do you think that other countries must fix their own economy(and government) or enforce the laws against hiring illegals?

I doubt putting up fences alone would help.....

As far as I see it, our country's only got 2 options on illegal immigration, enforcement, or tolerance. Since that tolerance has been systematically abused, that kind of leaves enforcement.

I think that the parent countries that people come from ARE the major part of the problem, if their governments and economies were better, their citizens wouldn't be trying to get into our country. With a little bit of effort on their parts, these countries could be doing more to make life better for their own people.

It's really hard to say what the right answer is on illegal immigration, part of it is a humanitarian question, part of it is an economics question, I think in part we've been sold a 'bill of goods' on this issue, and the real problem amounts to lax enforcement x20-30 years. I think we really really tried to help some other countries make it, sent em money, supported their people, but all that's done is make em dependent, and I don't know if it really helped em. In Mexico's case it made it a lot easier to support lots of kids, who now all want to live in the US, by their own rules, at that. I'm not entirely sure that's a positive development for our country. I think we, in turn, have allowed ourselves to become dependent on them, and that definitely isn't a positive development. Now, some people say interdependency is a good thing, but some of those 'some' people are also selling something, that aforementioned 'bill of goods', in my view. In order to really get a handle on the issue it's going to take a lot of study, and Congress is going to have to publish some of their findings, and there needs to be a public vote. Expressing the will of OUR people on this issue more clearly will help both our government and the governments of other countries to come to a better understanding of how to better manage the problem.
Since, in our country, The People still comprise the majority of 'the government', and all powers and authorities are built upon the consent of the governed, it stands to reason that the right place to start with this is with a Vote. As each state brings its' individual stance on illegal immigration to the capitol, it will then be possible for Congress to function as advertised and enact the will of the majority of the people, rather than the will of some lettuce wholesaler etc.

I think illegal immigration is a 'biggie', and the sooner we can come up with a unified position on it as a nation, the sooner something effective will be done about the problem. We're a nation of laws, and those laws need to be enforced, or abolished, because a law without effective enforcement behind it is kind of pointless, makes our country look bad etc. Other countries have to tend the needs of their own citizens. Those that can't need to apply to the UN for aid, and not just try to ram themselves into our economy in hostile fashion. There does come a point when both tolerance and patience will be exhausted....

Just read darkwolf's response, buddy you're off-base with that one. Support building the border fence, make coming to the united states illegally a FELONY, as is the case in other countries already, and levy a fine of between 50-100k/per instance against the parent country. If they can't pay, and it's one of the countries that the US already gives money to, then deduct those monies from any aid they're getting from us. The UN could go ahead and pull its' socks up too, and come up with a better answer on immigration, too. AND, someone needs to put their foot in the catholic church's *** on the 'go forth and multiply' bit. There's already PLENTY of people out there that 'be gettin' all day long, people that apparently have no other hobby.

Baby 6.5 billion's already here, baby 8 billion's going to be hungry too, countries like Mexico need to feed, house, clothe, educate, and employ their own 'kids'. America's not the global welfare office.

Both. Build a wall to hinder further iilegal entry in the country and then enforce the laws that we have and also amend the 14th amendment of the Constitution to end the anchor baby issue. And maybe then the other countries would have to fix their problems. They would have less incentive to encourage illegal immigration to America if the illegals were not able to send the Billions of dollars back home so easily follow the money as they say and it will lead right to the top of the governments of the countries involved.

Enforce our laws - they won't even try to fix their own until they have no other choice. By allowing them to come here illegally, we only delay them having to face up to the problems in their own countries and try to do something to fix those problems. The main laws to enforce are those that severely penalize all employers of illegal immigrants. That, and securing our borders are the most important things we can do to deter illegal immigration.

Enforce laws on businesses, deport, build a wall, put more national guard on the border.

You cannot fix it with just one solution, many things have to change as many things are the cause for the current problem. Without fixing each one, you will always have a flaw.

Enforce the law. Other countries are not going to fix their problems and the border fences are not going to solve the problem.

You got that right but there is nothing wrong with the economy. It is the perception that streets are made of gold that draws them in. They think they will have a better life over the border.

The fact that many illegals have it worse in the states then in the land they came from is somehow beyond their view of reality.

*****WARNING MY ANSWER IS QUITE GRAPHIC**********

I have heard of many different solutions, however my personal favorite is one of my own concoction. Invite all illegals to appear at a gathering point to be granted their green cards.

When they appear, they are led one at a time into a back room, arrested, placed on a plane then taken to 10,000 ft and pushed out without a parachute.

Pin a note to their clothing explaining that this is what will continue to happen to those who enter this country illegally. I guarantee it would put a stop to those who seek a shortcut to this country.

It is true that a multilateral plan is necessary for this complex problem. I think a little of both would go a long way

prosecute the businesses that hire illegals.
No work for illegals = no illegals coming here for work.
