Not at all. You can meet good people at many places other than churches, but churches can be a good source. No church can provably have the correct answers to theological questions, so there is no point in choosing a church on theological grounds. Rather, you should see if you find the camaraderie that you seek, and ascertain that the governance of the institution is in agreement with your values.
I joined Mensa with the explicit purpose of finding a smart spouse, and succeeded admirably.

My condolences and I'll just say that perhaps you should read up on religions and see what everyone is about before you make any kind of choice. I'm not religious but I am spiritual, reason being that religions have been dividing the peoples of the earth instead of uniting them. That may be because of lack of understanding, openmindedness, willingness and kindness. There are universal truths that may be more important than any religion in existence. Perhaps one should be more concerned with achieving a spiritual awakening which is possible through the correcting of one's character. That may happen through various means, including; knowing when one has a problem and believing a power greater than yourself can help you, making a searching and fearless moral inventory of one's self and correcting those character defects, knowing what harm we have caused to others
and willing to make amends to those as long as we don't put ourselves or others in danger, when we are wrong promptly admit it, and improve our conscious contact with a higher power through meditation.

Spirituality is merely the relationship you have with yourself.. but thats my belif talking spirituaility is commonly seend at your relation ships witht eh divine or god.. Picking whitch one though.. Living.. Im sure has taought you to go with things that are confortable and that make sence.

If any religious indoctrination makes you elevate the world but more importantly yourself then id find it hard to dissuade you from following whatever it maybe.

I didnt last long myself before i started seeking 25 years of agnosticsisim and I started to follow the advice of jesus .. when he said "Seek and ye shall find" I commited and saught and found truth in those words and why the world works the way it does.

Groundrules.. though that i followed may help you.

If anyone and i mean anyone says they have all the answers or so and so has all the answers run for your life. your not a child your an adult your goal should be self reliance.

Accept and give gifts equilty.

And trust that if your true in seeking.. it will be found.

(and I mean happyness in faith and spirituality.. not control or persecution of anyone for anything over stupid reason like what someon thinks or what side of the river they live on)

So.. happy seeking.

I am sorry to hear about your wife. I personally would talk to people of different religions. I have tried a number of them and I have found what is good for me, Kemetic Orthodoxy. You can be religious without having a religion. You don't have to go to church or a temple or anything. If you want to be a christian you can still worship at home. It won't find you a woman with values though. Find something your comfortable with and the woman of values will find you or you will find her.

If you want to go to a church just find a Universal Unitarian church...they accept anyone regardless of belief or religion. They follow a sort of pluralist view in that all religions or even non-belief can be valid paths through life. It's more about community then choosing the right religion.

do not seek religion as a means to find someone. meditate on what it is you want out of spirituality/religion. do some research, don't settle for something that doesn't make you 100% happy and comfortable. ask questions whatever faith you delve into. a priest , rabbi, preacher, high priestess, or whomever should be willing to sit down with you and discuss any concerns or answer questions..............I'm very sorry about your wife, while you may feel in the dark she's with you still she stands behind you looking over your shoulder, her love envelopes you during hard times. have you not sensed her, thought you saw something in your peripheral vision. it's not your imagination, may you find the guidance and happiness you seek

Famous writer C.S.Lewis was an atheist that started thinking like you, so he tryed to find his best choice. He has writen the whole experience. So if you have time read it.
I am not going to force you or preach for my religius views, find some time read his books and study his life, perhaps it will give you some answers.
He was not some dummy, but highly intelectual person who tryed to find logic, similaritys and best choice.
I truly hope that you will find his life interesting and that his choice will help you decide.

I am sorry for your loss. But if you want answers to maybe some questions you have in life, why not get in touch with Jehovah's Witnesses in your area? They are the most logical religion I've seen and heard. I know because when I asked questions, the answers were well-explained.

You first need to know if you believe in god. Then I suggest reading the Bible and see what you think after that. You can do some research on the different denominations, make a choice, and then go to churchof that denomination. You might also consider being baptized. Just make sure that you are not blind in your faith.
