ocd? Is that another fake syndrome, people use not to take responsibility for their own actions?

I am a life long sufferer of OCD and I am now a mental health clinician. The person above me is right on. I want to add one thing. The side effects from those medications can be odd and annoying. But a lot of times they go away after a couple weeks. Sometimes they make people tired or sometimes even really hyper, sometime they cause nausea, and in rare occurrences can make depression worse or cause depression. BUT they are VERY worth trying. Just keep on until you find one that doesn't give you side effects and works. These medications typically take 6 to 8 weeks to work for OCD. After trying quite a few, Paxil worked the best for me.

Anafranil is the most effective OCD treating drug. But it has more side effects than the SSRIs (prozac, paxil, zoloft) which are also used. Good luck and don't give up on your treatment. You cannot be cured but your symptoms can be reduced to a level you can tolerate. I still have some symptoms but they aren't bothersome and they have become second nature to me. Remember: DON"T give up!

Hi how are you? you have my sympathy OCD can be a very debilitating condition, however the fact that sufferers of the illness do respond to certain medications suggests that it may be neurobiological in origin.
A growing body of evidence indicates that obsessive-compulsive disorder may involve abnormal metabolism in certain areas of the brain and possible abnormalities in the functioning of serotonin (this neurotransmitter is key in regulating activities such as sleep, mood, agression and repetitive behaviours).
Why not try cognitive behavioural therapy which has a high rate of success when combined with medication which alters serotonin levels e.g. fluoxetine,Anafranil,Zoloft or Paxil.
There are some side effects to these medications, but usually they are relatively minor and a small price to pay if you are then free from distressing rituals.
OCD can't be cured but it can be controlled.
Good Luck

OCD is not something that is curable. It is treatable with therapy and meds.

I have pasted below some information on treatment options. As for your question on what are side effects of the meds. Well to answer that questions you would need to tell us the name of the meds you are on.

Treatment for OCD includes counseling and medications. Antidepressant medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as fluoxetine (for example, Prozac), are most commonly used. Your doctor may increase the dosage of your medication or change to another SSRI if the first medication prescribed doesn't help. It may take several weeks before you feel the effects of an antidepressant and it begins to affect thoughts and behavior.

Counseling used to treat OCD includes exposure and response prevention, a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy. Exposure and response prevention is behavorial therapy that provides gradually increasing contact with the feared obsession so that anxiety is reduced. For example, if you were obsessed about germ contamination, you would repeatedly touch an object you believe is contaminated and not wash your hands afterward. You would repeat that behavior until your anxiety was reduced. Cognitive therapy may also be used to help overcome the faulty beliefs (such as fear of contamination) that lead to OCD behaviors.

The most effective treatment for OCD may be using medications and counseling together.

I hope this information helped you and I wish you the best of luck. Take Care! :)

I suffered from ocd as well as depression. I was on medication for 7 years. I receintly got healed throught the power and love of Jesus. I tried many times over the years to go off medication, but could never cope. Anything is possible through Him. No medication could heal me, just mask the symptoms. Jesus is the healer.
