to a large extent it does and is actively used to manipulate the opinions of the empty minded. that's not to say that someone with intelligence and wisdom gets nothing out of religion, because most religions seem valid in the sense that they can provide a moral code to live by and contain some truth and wisdom.

The religion as stated is the scripture(any) is the original characteristic of a human being. Only the humans can realize religion. That is the difference between man and animal. Animals also eat, sleep, mate and defend. A gorgeous method of eating, sleeping, mating and defending(palatial house etc) does not distinguish a man from animal.
Religion is a very dynamic activity. It is all variegated. "Religion is unmotivated and cannot be checked by anything or anyone." Religion helps you realize that everyone is unique in the world. Other activities you are oblized.

Religion gives you some personal life as work and associating with people is inevitable. Religion is not a sentiment.

As the saying goes:

Philosophy without religion is mental speculation.
Religion without philosophy is sentiment.

The balance is the perfect knowledge. It is a great scientific process. This science is to be realized not studied, it is not academic.
It is therefore called realized knowledge.

Religion in dictionary is described as faith and faith can change. Today you are Christian, tomorrow you can accept Hindu etc. Faith can change but the original characteristic of the human being that cannot be changed. What is the original characteristic? It is realized knowledge and the process is scientific not sentiment, not mental adjustment or speculation.
The original characteristic means it is law and law is permanent not subjected to change at any point of time. And what is that law? To realize knowledge. Realization is not experiencing. It is much superior to knowledge gained by experience.

In direct answer to your question. Religion cannot cater to the empty minded. It caters only to the intellectuals. Intelligence is a pre-requisite. Not for empty minded. Anyone who makes such an enquiry is certainly not empty minded, questioning is the beginning of human life, the intelligent life.

Yes, most definitely. Religion does all kinds of things that are thoughtless- like all those people that religiously go to baseball games. Or soccer games. or religiously go and have their nails and hair done. Not much else going on there!

But look at all those religious evolutionists! They get a big headline, and the article has a lot of things like, " We think, " and " the theory is, " and " it looks like " and " it might be, " and their followers come to these boards and say things like, " SEE, IT'S NOW A FACT! "

How empty minded can you be? P.T. Barnum was right as rain about suckers!

Religion caters to all grades of intelligence. But religion will get you nowhere close to salvation or eternal life. Even Jesus condemned religion in the four gospels about his life.

Religion: mans feeble attempt to reach God on his own.

" An empty mind is the devil's workshop" Haven't you heard this before? Its not religion but the devil who caters to empty minds. Fill your mind with Jesus. You will have peace always.

There are no empty minded ppl. All of us have a lot of nonesense and junk up there. There are some who have more than others and who do not understand this fact and thus end up being nuisance to the rest.

I don't think that is the case, it does however, tend to suck in people who need to feel a sense of belonging, which in turn leads to those people doing some crazy stuff....if you think about it, alot of crazy things have been done in the name of religion, just turn on the news, and you'll see, on another note, potheads have never gone to war :)

Cater to them? It depends on them. Without ignorant people, unthinking people and unquestioning people, religion would disappear in an instant.

I say if you believe in GOD it doesnt matter if you follow A religion. You can have your own religion by which I mean, your own system of faith and belief not necesarily a known religion, and be very close to GOD.
