Should there actually be a World War III, the weapons put into place would definitely include those of the nuclear type. And once one starts there would be no stopping anymore. All hidden nukes will appear seemingly from thin air.
It would be, in effect, the End Of The World As We Know It.
And with no more "world" as in "earth", and basing on your assumption that humans are a very persistent species, our "world" would then have to become another planet entirely.
Mars, maybe?
And with the resettlement of the entire human population after the theoretical WWIII (Which would not be a lot), I believe that humans would finally wake up and know peace.
Besides, they would have a common enemy: the planet itself. The planet would definitely resist human's attempts to tame and control it. To do so all humans would have to unite against that "enemy"
So, in effect, I believe that World War Four would be a "war" against the world itselt.
As to what weapons would be used, it would be similar to that of an ordinary war.
Brainpower and willpower.
These 2 are the only common things that win a war. Not weapons not a scheming mind but these two "powers".
And if humans use those two "powers" the enemy, the planet, would not be able to stand against us.

Sticks & Stones because words can never hurt me. But really even if some people survied , there would always be one person who would want to rule all the rest, just human nature.

Interesting question.... well that depends if nukes are used. If nukes are used you won't have to worry about a WW IV.... everyone will be screwed. But nukes are used as more of a political deterrent. Ya probably sticks and stones.
