I was born in Korea lived in Australia for 4 years and now residing in New Zealand and this is my 5th year i have a NZ citizenship. I am 15 turning 16 soon and i wish to join the UK military because its an alternative to the US. The British military is superior and gets to go to Iraq Afghanistan Bosnia etc so that makes it interesting. Point is am i elligable?? I am pretty fit i think but not marathon runner fit haha. Can do 60 pushups and run 5km in under 17 minutes i am really desperate to tour afghanistan. Everytime in news when i see a british soldier i wish it was me there. Yes i know im very pathetic but this is what i wish to do. First i plan on going to University and getting a degree and becoming an officer. Do you think British soldiers will dislike me because im Korean not british?? i dont know so please tell me!

As an alternative to the US? You say you live in NZ & have citizenship there, you would be ineligble to serve in the US military unless you first get perm residency or citizenship here. As far as UK, I believe the rule is citizenship on a comonwealth nation (NZ). I don't know the rules for officers, but they may require native born citizenship, I don't know all countries have their own wierd rules. I would think though that your best bet would be to attend university in England, or to get into Sandhurst. Check the ministry of defence website & try checking with the british consulate. No one will dislike or care where you are born, only how you perform. It may however be an issue in security clearences.

It's not the fact that they might "dislike" you, it's a matter of national security whether you are a foreign spy or not. And depending if you meet the requirements as a citizen in the UK or whatnot. And why do you want to join the military at a young age? And if you have your eyes set on becoming an officer, you better work hard in school, get the grades and then join. I think you just watch too much war movies :)

If you are a New Zealand citizen than yes you can join the British military, loads of New Zealanders volunteer to join the British army and you could join even if you are a Australian.I think this is becuase New Zealand is apart of the Commonwealth.Your right our military is superior and has a good history of fighting and our troops are the best trained.
GOOD LUCK.

Why not join the U.S. military...... what's wrong with that. The brits do not have a superior military. I'm not knockin' em though.... I've worked with a few brit officers and they were pretty cool. I don't think they would have a problem with you.

Well it's harder to get into the UK military now. they dont do as much recuiting from the common wealth counties any more. to many were applying from them. it now mostly only UK citizens. You could allways try the french foreign legion everyone is from different counties in there. you can be from any county to join them
