He commited suicide, with assitance I believe. The Bible says he was so overcome with grief after realizing that he betrayed the son of God, so I don't blame the grief he must have felt after realizing it, and then commiting suicide because of it.

Matthew 27:3 Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, 4 saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." They said, "What is that to us? See to it yourself." 5 And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.
He killed himself by hanging and then the rope broke at some later time and his decaying body hit the ground and his guts spilled out.
Acts 1:18 (Now this man bought a field with the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out.

Apparently he hanged himself out of grief and guilt, and when Jesus died a short time later, there was an earthquake, during which Judas' body fell from the tree and broke open when it hit the ground, causing his bowels to come out. The confusion is the result of seemingly conflicting passages by Matthew and in Acts (Luke), which occured within 6-9 hours of each other.

The Bible which is a record of History says he committed suicide. Do you think Astronauts went to space? That is what we read in history books, so that is what we believe. The Bible is A record of History and it was recorded that the man committed suicide, if you read the text in depth he had already committed suicide before he betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Where did you find your clues?

contrary to popular belief... judas was actually placed in the image of jesus right before they began his torture. it was judas' punishment for betraying jesus. by that time jesus had already been taken to heaven by God.
i know many might disagree and call it blasphemy, but you did ask the question. the evidence is there... 1.) when you find actual evidence especially in gospels that weren't placed in the bible that people totally ignore, which shouldn't be if you want to know about your religion..2.) when 'jesus' was carrying the cross he kept denying his identity (that he was jesus) but people ignored his statements and kept throwing stones at him... this part was not placed in the movie, 'the passion of christ', so please don't use it as 'proof' for instance... 3.) there is ALOT of evidence in the new testament for this fact...from there coming a prophet out of 'their brotheren' (which are the arabs, not the isrealites since the lineage of all the prophets where hebrew, not arabian) that was said by moses in the old testament or torah...that's just one simple example... usually priests would tell you to ignore the old testament and concentrate on the new, since they just don't want you to find these pieces of a puzzle and then they would not have any answers other than...'just pay attention to the new testament'... where jesus is added everywhere as 'the son of God'.
but remember that the new testament was written about a hundered years after jesus was on earth by people who didn't know him personally... if they did, then that's another story.

Neither he:
And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
looks very much like it means what it says.
