My parents used to let me have small sips of beer when I was only about 2 or 3. It started off with my dad just kidding around, seeing if I'd actually drink any. Well, I did, and after that I would cry if I didn't get some kind of alcohol. They tried to give me non-alcoholic beer, but somehow I could tell the difference and I'd throw a huge hissy fit.

I used to be a really great student up until 3rd grade. I have no clue what happened. No one does. I just seemed to shut down if I ever had some kind of mental challenge to deal with and my grades got really terrible. If I was lucky, I'd get a D+ on my report card.

While I also have ADD and used to have depression, I can't help but wonder if my poor acedemic performance is due to early alcohol consumption. Anyone know if this could be something else entirely?

My dad used to do the same thing. One day, he thought there was only a few drops in the can of beer, but it was probably a quarter full. I was still crawling at the time and he said that I appeared to be staggering as I crawled. I've been sober since May 2, 2004 (yes, I ended up an alcoholic). I think its genetic more than due to my early consumption. I was a great student until 10th grade, but that changed due to alcohol and drugs. But, in your case, I'm hoping you weren't binge drinking in 3rd grade, so I'm sure that wasn't the case. I don't think your early beer consumption caused your "breakdown" if I can call it that. I think you have to drink quite a bit to have it affect you long term and to such a degree that you suffered. Was there anything else in your life traumatic around the 3rd grade, loss of a family member, pet, friend, change of school or other traumatic event? I hate to suggest it, but maybe even something so horrible that you've blocked it from your memory, like others who have been sexually abused as a child. I hope that's not the case!

I agree with the comment on the grammar/spelling. I would suggest looking into testing before blaming/labeling any one issue as the 'root' of all your problems. Either discuss it with your doctor or psychologist (if you have one; don't go get one just for this!), they may know where you can be tested in your area. Comprehensive intelligence and task-based processing testing can determine whether you have a specific problem/learning disability, or suggest whether it is an organic or psychologic issue at hand. Best of luck.

Well it could be a lot of things but alcohol for young kids can be very damaging. I must say though you write spell, and punctuate well for a D+ student with ADD.
