I would suggest lots, and lots of KY.
And... ofcourse start slowly, with smaller objects, or just fewer fingers. Work your way up. Anus is a sphincter, and it'll stretch with time, but it's much more fragile than many other orifices (such as its neighbor found on females for example). You definitely don't want that area to bleed, since bacteria go in and out of there all the time and an open wound would be bad.
And you should be able to feel the prostate eventually.

It's perfectly safe. Trim the fingernails, use a rubber glove and some surgical lubricant, margarine, baby oil, or something similar. You are to be commended for wanting to add to your husband's enjoyment. He's a lucky man. If you really want to "blast his rocket," give him lingam massage (penis stroking) at the same time.
