I went to a well known place that sells tires, and after spending some time time figuring out all the details and paying for my new tires, I ask the guy how long he thinks it will take. I'm not trying to rush him, I just want to know if I should have someone pick me up or just wait. He says 45 minutes. I figure I'll wait. Well almost 2 hours later it's done. I didn't really care how long it took, but I didn't want to wait for 2 hours. Was I wrong to be peeved?

I am patient, but when someone says 45 minutes, I figure an hour at most. If I thought it was longer I would have caught a ride.

no, people providing a service should always overshoot in their timelines, that will make them look good when they are done earlier than expected. They have just lost a customer, right?

The guy that talked to at the counter isn't in the back. He may know how long it takes to put new tires on once the car is back there but he may not know how backed up they are in the back. It's called laziness to find out. That is why I always drop it off in the morning and pick it up before they close at the end of the day. I never waste time at any car place. And usually while the car is in the shop for rotating, balancing or any other thing I get the oil changed at the same time. So everything is taken care of and I don't have to back for another 3,000 miles or 3 months.

I work in an emergency room. If you think waiting two hours is too much, you need to learn a little patience. When you are dealing with any type of vehicle repair, you are at their mercy.

no, but, you should know whenever you are getting work done on your car that it will probably take a while. Bring a friend along or a book. Sometimes it takes longer then expected, no ones perfect.
