Good God, man! you don't want to KILL or SERIOUSLY injure intruders! that's an EXPENSIVE lawsuit waiting to happen! don't be an idiot!
get a dog that is loud and looks ferocious, but isn't a killer. i'd go for a Doberman or a German Shepard. they're LOUD, they look MEAN, but i don't think they'd kill anyone.
i think a pittbull is going to clamp on to the neck of the first intruder you get and get you slapped with a manslaughter charge.
use your head.

There is no such thing as a "guard dog" you are talking about a vicious dog(no matter what breed). If you want a dog to protect you, all you need do is go adopt a large breed mutt from a shelter and give it tons of love attention and exercise and training and proper nutrition and health care, in return he will guard those he loves and his/your home territory with his life if need be. That is truly a protector, and not just a vicious dog that you cant even pet do you really think a dog being abused like that(no matter what the breed) will even care enough about thier owner to lay thier life on the line to protect them? the answer is no it will just bite everyone indiscriminately because it has simply been raised to be aggressive through neglect. SO dont go get a "guard dog" and just chain it up somewhere and let it go crazy mean, get a dog and love it and make it apart of your family and it will protect you viciously out of devotion, not just plain viciousness.

As you can see, trying to adopt out puppies can be difficult, regardless their breed. I would strongly suggest you spay and neuter the parents before they bring another litter into the world. As far finding homes for the two remaining pups, if you have had a bad experience with a previous site, don't go back! That seems simple enough. Have your tried your local newspapers, radio stations, adoption events, etc? Your local animal rescue group may know of a family waiting for a pup like yours. You are exactly correct when you say it's the way the pups are raised, however Pit Bulls have gotten a bad rap of late and many people hold on to those reports. It would be prudent of you to thoroughly question anyone who wants to adopt the pups. In fact you might even request a home visit before letting them go. Is the yard properly fenced? What provisions does the family have when they are away for the day - shelter, food, water, etc. Good luck and get the parents fixed!

In most cases I believe that an animal is as good as it's owner. However I can't think of anyone who associates a pitbull with anything but fighting. This may be a stereotype and perhaps some pitbulls are good dogs. From what I understand they have a hair trigger.Common sense tells us not to play with a loaded gun.Based on that I would have to say no.Some people view the dog as an extension of themself. If a dog is viewed as "macho" the testosterone level increases with the owner .Look at the owner of some dogs and it isn't much of a stretch to believe this.It would be a gamble to get a dog as an accessory. Base your choice of breed with professional information not just our opinions

Pitbulls are not toys. You don't just get a dog and have it be a guard dog. Proper "guarding" takes at least a year of serious training. It's called schutzhund.,
What you might really want is a watchdog, that will alert you to a problem. A dog trained to attack a human is a serious thing and not for amateurs.

Pit Bulls are great one person dog, but their reputation is not the best. We have one and he doesn't know he is a pit bull. The bad part is, if he bites someone, just the reputation they might have him put down just cause the kind of dog he is. Just make sure he has obedience training and you don't get a dog to attack. I would talk to a professional trainer and see what they recommend.

Pit bulls don't make good guard dogs. They weren't even bred to be guard dogs. Most are non-aggressive towards humans. I have 5 pit bulls and they like people, but they don't tolerate other dogs. If you want a good guard dog, get a Chow Chow or Doberman.

after all the publicity the pit bulls are getting that is kind of asking for trouble. everyone who is looking for the guard dog is now looking for a pit bull. all pit's are not mean. it is how they are trained. It is not always the breed it is how they are trained.
my 5 pound chiuahua would have protected me better than the pit bull i had. my pit was not mean. everyone just gets the wrong idea about pits because of this exact reason. if you want a pit get it for a friend not protection and do not teach it to be mean. please for the pitbulls sake. california is now suposably killing all the pit bulls because they are suppose to be very very viscous. please do not do it
german shepard rotweilers, dobermans, are very good protectors whom don't already have a very bad rep like the pit. the pit gets this name for a reason because humans teach them terrible things. i actually love the pitbull and i want them to stay around.

You have to carry a license to own a true guard dog and they won't let you license a pitbull. Theyre trying to make the breed go extinct because of dogfights and over guarding.
