Several reasons. People don't read and write as much as they used too. Far too many people are slipping through the cracks of the education system. The system is broken, has been for a long time. I've read one to many stories about people finishing high school, yet can't read! How the hell does that happen?

Because most people see no reason to make learning to spell the many many words we use a priority. Life is too short to worry about spelling.

I know sometimes when i type i get all my words mispaled, and it's not because i can't spale they are just typos and i either don't care to go back and change them for "yahoo answers" or im typing too fast and then i don't do the spell check. Now on the other hand if i were typing for my class or email i would always go back and double check but since it's only yahoo answers i don't really care if i mispale my words. But thats just me.

How well do you get along in Hindi, Urdu, Catalin, or, Tagalog?

They spell really well, in their own alphabets of 98,000 characters?
Because English is their SECOND tongue? They know not of the "Check Spelling" function above the blank box, prior to selecting the "Preview" button, because Yahoo can't interpret 2800 languages perfectly, yet?

You just wanted something to vetch about, because your walnut sized brain is bored, and it is not yet feeding time in your section of the zoo?

It's not a sign of intelligence, of course, it's just because they don't feel like taking the time to spell, I suppose. It really isn't that hard.
