Sounds like she is purring, means she is happy. Sounds like her new mommy is not sure of kitty language, there are books called cats for dummies, ferrets for dummies, dogs for dummies (I am not saying you are a dummy), but they are packed with info and are entertaining reading. As long as she is not acting agitated or scared, just hold her and cuddle her, sounds like she is pretty young and needs cuddling.

Motor noises .. hehe.. that's purring.
The pushing of the paws is kneeding.

These are both normal cat mannerisms.

The purring is an emotional reaction for cats. Many people think it's for when they are happy, but that's actually not true. It CAN be, but many cats also purr when they are in distress.

In your case, if you're holding kitty properly, I'm assuming she likes it... especially since she's kneeding (another thing cats do habitually, usually when they're 'in the zone')

In my experience this just means that she is a little kitten and has not quite got used to being without mum. Some cats will continue to do this all their lives (especially if you wear fluffy sweaters). If you don't like it just try to discourage her gently.
All the best with your kitten

Purring is part of every cat's repertoire of social communication, apparently created by the movement of air in spasms through contractions of the diaphragm. Interestingly, purring is sometimes heard in cats who are severely ill or anxious, perhaps as a self-comforting vocalization. But, more typically, it is a sign of contentment, first heard in kittens as they suckle milk from their mother.

Kittens cannot meow, so they purr. They often do this when they are nursing and mother meows back to them for reassurance. Approach from the side to pick her up and put one hand palm up under her front legs on belly and then wrap other arm around and put underneath from other side. Be gentle, cuddle up and enjoy!

She thinks you're her mommy. Kittens purr and knead when they nurse. Take it as a compliment - they associate that behavior with comfort and security.
