Your kitten should now be eating on it's own. I recommend Hills Science Diet for kittens. You'll have less waste if you use a high quality food.

If you're using the dry food, you can leave it out for him/her all the time, if you're using the wet food, you should feed him/her at least 3-4 times a day. The wet food shouldn't be left out for more than an hour as it will become dry and will no longer be edible.

Go to the Hills Science website where many questions about proper diet for your cat can be answered. Using a high quality food will enable your kitty to be healthy and live a good long life.

Make sure you give him/her fresh water 1-2 times a day, perhaps more during the hot summer days.

I have 5 cats, 2 of them were bottle fed from just a few days old. By 8 weeks I think you can safely feed a little several times throughout the day. With mine I would put down food early in the morning and usually they learn to eat a little at a time throughout the day. When the dish is empty they've had enough for the day and you start over again the next morning. Just make sure they don't overeat or gorge. The vet told me to try it this way with my first two and that once they realize the food will always be there then they tend not to overeat since they feel secure. Hope this helps.

At about 4 weeks old, a kitten is no longer getting all the nourishment it needs from the mother and then one needs to start supplement feeding. Make food available at all times; monitor how much it is eating. You will then know about how much to put out and how often to prevent waste. Moist foods should not be kept over 30 minutes to 1 hour after kitten is through eating due to bacteria.

With our cats, we make sure they have food all the time, along with fresh water, at all times. Young kittens need food all the time as well.

I always have food out for the cats at all times. I guess if you don't, you might try at least three times a day.
