Its a device that changes the current coming out of an electrical socket from one "setting" to another. The US uses different voltage ratings and plug configurations than Europe (for example). So in order to use a US electrical device in Europe, you need a converter. Otherwise you would not be able to plug into a wall socket. Some 'converters' are just a plastic piece that changes the configuration of the plug. That is usually only for use with a laptop or other similar device rated for several different inputs. For most things you will need a full-up converter which can cost 20 - 70 bucks or so. You can buy them at travel stores or at amazon or places like that.

You may be asking about a voltage converter. It changes the voltage from the domestic receptacle from the place you are visiting to Match the voltage of the device you are using. It is available at most audio And electronic stores and many department and hardware stores.

just search in ebay buy a voltage converter not a plug converter. You need a voltage converter not a plug converter make sure when you buy it it says voltage converter cause that can really be a big problem if its not a voltage and by the way buy it like at homedepot and those other stores lowes target and appliance stores

A gizmo that accepts one type of power and gives of another.

Any electronics store should carry one, depending on where you are you either need 220>110 or the other way around.

You may be better of, though, buying new power supplies for your electronics, they cope better with surges and other fluctuations in power.
