I walked in right after him...basically took the key from his hand. He smiled. At first I thought he was just smiling like 'Hey'....then I caught a whiff and thought he was smiling about the odor he left...but then I saw what he left choking the bowl and I almost dropped to my knees and vomited.

What should I do?

Can I go to management with a gross complaint like this?

Hi...if you're responding just to get back at him...you'll report him to your boss !
If you'd like to help him realise how coarse and insensitive and offensive his action was....then you'd have the courage to TELL HIM TO HIS FACE ...in a kindly manner.....and if that fails ...then bring it up in the presence of others...that he may learn and be a better person for it...but I do not think that a good person would want someone fired for such petty ignorance.
Thank you all.

No - you do not go to management. You are not 100 percent sure he left the surprise in there. Also, it is possible that he was unable to flush - the toilet may not have been working.

What you should do? Nothing.... just hope that it doesn't happen again. Adults should know to flush once they've used the toilet. It may seem petty to go to management to ask them to place signs in the bathroom.

You could go to a joke store and buy a fake "pile" to put on on his desk.

If you were a manager, what would you do with a complaint like this? You might roll your eyes and think "Great-just how I wanted to start my day, playing referee in kindergarten."

You did learn something about this guy; maybe you have gotten an early warning and know not to trust him in the future.

Yew! It's funny because I had something like that happen with my fellow male co-workers - among themselves and not with me (^.^) They managed it by talking about it in front of the guy as if they didn't know it was him and told me the whole story. He was so embarrassed that I guess he shaped up and never did that again. You could try to talk with him directly and then if that doesn't work talk with management. Normally management would like for you to first try to resolve this between yourselves first. Finally, if all else fails, wear a gas mask.

Some dumps are unflushable. Also since some people flush
everything down a company toilet they easily get blocked.
His smile may have been out of embarrassment.
Next time tell him to use the gas station toilet.

How about keeping it undercover first, and putting a sign on the door that can be seen when the person is leaving the scene of the crime. Room spray too. And I am so sorry for you. Yuck!

yuck... how embarrassing

that's better than at my work place where I was a manager. We had three bathrooms and each morning I'd come in someone would run up to me and tell me the toilets were clogged. Some one had bowel movements so faul they clogged every toilet! If you clog it shouldn't you unclog it! No one wants to deal with you sh"t literally!

Is this the first time you ever saw something like this. I see this all the time when I go to public restrooms. This is something you never saw, let's say twenty or more years ago. Welcome to the real world of gross, disgusting, lazy and ignorant people.

You can always loudly ask him to go back and flush that thing. I did something similar, but it was my manager, a Guamanian that left footprints and urine on the seat. It embarassed him pretty thoroughly, but at least we all knew who had been doing it.

Yeah you can. It is part of a personal hygiene thing. I had to tell a guy to take a shower. He was disrupting the workforce by his smell. The guy that left a dump for you offended you and disrupted your productivity.
