alright, first you have to know how to spar against an oponnent in any martial arts, you have to bounce slightly on the balls of your feet, this helps with mobility and speed.

Now, some moves from Taekwon-do;

1)Front snap kick- bring your knee up parrellel to the ground and whilst bringing up your knee fully extend your leg, striking with the ball of your foot, this is mostly used as a light kick, almos tlike a jab.
2)Front-turn and kick- This maybe difficult to think about so i wil have to explain it to you descriptively. Go into a fighting stance with one leg behind you. Bring up your back leg's knee, and rotate it over and point your knee ahead and to the left. Sooo think of your body as a "X" with your legs diagonal, and arms more horizontal. You will bring your back leg over towards the top right diagonal, and point it towards the left, and kick outward at the same time. In real life it wont be as complicated and is quite simple. Almost like a front snap kick, except pivoted over and kicked on its side.

These two kicks are a very good basis on any sparring match. Quick combinations of these kicks executed accurately will work out well and surprise your friend. If you do not have very good cardio, i woudl suggest you work onthat, for that is one of the main factors in endurance. MAKE SURE TO KEEP MOVING, do not stand there and wait for him, you must continually move around, and avoid him cornering you

Spar a grappller? BJJ or Judo Jujitsu? Makes a difference. Judo Jujitsu, the traditional form, involves dirty tactics. BJJ has a lot of rules. I'm gonna guess it's BJJ. Here's the trick not a lot of people expect to say b/c BJJ is the big thing now thanks to the UFC. Keep the fight standing. Quickly learn to dirty box and defend the takedown. He will shoot for your legs no matter how you position yourself. Learn to sprawl and break the grip of the takedown. Then keep the fight standing and focus on his chin. Use your jab to move his hands up to his face then proceed with rapid fire shots to the body. You will not be able to knock him down with one blow but you will need to "cut down the tree." Just pummel him with rapid fire shots to the ribs, abs, and chin.

Will this work? Chuck Liddell doesn't wrestle and his a UFC champion. Think about it.

Good luck and if he gets you to the ground, tap out before you get hurt.

See, telling someone or describing them just isn't going to work. Your friend learned from training and experience. You should spar him, and then after ask him if he can go through with you what he did and what you did.

Most importantly, tap out before you get hurt.

hes a grappler, so the second you try to wrestle with him your fighting a slow losing battle.

if its just for fun and u arnt tryin to hurt him ur gonna lose. to win against somone trained you have to do somthing unexpected and finish it quick.

hell probably shoot at you like a wrestler, if you stand high and leave your legs open to the shot, wait for it and expect it.. just bring your knee up into his face as he shoots on you.. but thats not really a spar and could hurt him.
