Unless he's been getting at your coffee, he's probably just being a dog. Take him to the beach. Teach him to catch frisbees. Scritch his ears.

It could be nothing. Maybe your dog needs to be walked or put out in the yard to potty. Perhaps your dog is a female about to go into heat. Perhaps your dog is a male who smells a female in heat. Your dog may have a premonition or may have heard something you didn't hear that either hurt his ears or sounded suspicious to him/her. How much attention have you given your dog, today? Perhaps he/she is just lonesome and wants some time with you. Are you upset about anything? Dogs can sense when their owners are upset or troubled. Another idea is to smell your dog's ears. Ear mites can drive a dog CRAZY! It is a maddening itch that won't go away. Cleaning your dog's ears with q-tips and alcohol will help. If he/she worsens or doesn't improve over the weekend, perhaps you should see your Vet at the earliest opportunity.
Good luck and God bless you. God bless the beasts and the children, too. Without them this life would be so dreary.

In what way are they agitated? Sometimes, it means that they have fleas, if they are scratching themselves, or rubbing themselves against other things, or they could have an ear infection if they are going after their ears a lot. Can you specify te behaviour--what you mean by agitated and restless?

is it hot? have you checked the weather reports? Do you live in a tornado area? Did it eat something wrong? Check the weather, then make sure the dog doesn't need anything, IE water, food. Check and make sure there is nothing wrong outside and lock doors etc. if your dog acts scared of the outside. Take care.

Make sure he is eating, drinking, going to the bathroom and getting enough sleep. If you think something is wrong, take him to the vet. There could be many things making him uncomfortable and we don't have enough info to help you. A vet will help the most.

Let him romp outside. Take him somewhere new. Or get him a playmate.
