Ice is not bad for dogs. Martinis are bad for dogs. Neglect is bad for dogs. Neutering, in the broad perspective, is good for dog kind.

I don't know why anyone would say ice is bad for dogs...its just water anyway. I have been giving my dog ice since she was a puppy and now every time she hears the freezer open she comes running!

I've never heard this myself. Our dogs enjoy an ice cube on a hot day. I could only guess that it might be a potential choking hazard, more so for some breeds. Dogs teeth aren't really suited to grinding an ice cube after all.

We have medium to larger breed dogs who have all eaten ice with no problems.

Never heard of that one. Most people give ICE to their dogs during the summer months to COOL them off!

I never heard of that before either! I know that it's deadly if a dog drinks Anti-Freeze, yet they are extremely attracted to it for some reason. DON'T EVER LEAVE IT OUT! They love it. Then if they drink it, they will ultimately die. But ice? I doubt it.

The reason ice is bad for teeth, whether animal or human, is because the cold causes the enamel on your teeth to become brittle. While the cold is making them brittle, the chance of cracking a tooth is escalated.
P.S. I feed my dogs ice, but keep it to small quantities at a time. My vet says this decreases the chances of the teeth getting that cold.

i don't think it's bad. why would it?

i heard once that a show dog got his own ice anytime he was thirsty(the ice where you would push the handle on the refrigarator) and he won best in show! i don't know how it could affect a dog besides a brain freeze.lol!

It is for the same reason that humans should not have ice......

It can break your teeth. Your teeth are not as strong as you think they are. Once you break through the enamel your teeth are very weak.

As long as you are taking care of your dogs teeth, then I would not worry so much about giving or not giving them ice.

it can be good for dog, i mean they chew bones which are harder than ice. Ice can really "clean" the teeth of the dog.
