The real reason is that the CIA funded and supported the Ex-patriots of Cuba. Also, it is not and has never been the policy of the US Government to publicly support the removal of a foreign power, head of state.
Now, in March of 2003, that changed, when the US led invasion of Iraq. To liberate the Iraqi people of a ruthless dictatorship.

the Marines at gitmo are there as a security battalion...they AREN'T on friendly terms with castro. Kennedy thought they could pull a quiet covert op...it backfired. Most involved were cuban refugees and they thought they could pull a quick coup and put these cubans in power.
