I think I get what you're saying. Why did he "talk" so openly with people back in biblical days? Noone was surprised to hear from him back then. It's like he did all this stuff while the bible was being written and then just stopped.
And I think that is why there are so many non-believers. If he could do it then how comes he isn't doing it now? And the people who say God talks to them are considered crazy.
Maybe he wants us to have faith. And to choose him on our own free will. If he is around all the time and in our face then we know he exist and don't have a choose but to believe in him. But then again, what would be so bad about that? I really don't know. Sorry.

Really? I respectfully disagree with you on that point. I think that God communicates with us all the time, via many different channels and media of communication. I think it is we who do not accept God's communication.
I think God communicates with us all day, everyday.
You can find it in the thoughts that pop unbidden into your mind. In the gut feelings that you have, at any given moment about anything. You can find it in the things you read, the events you witness, the people you talk to. You might hear it in the next song that comes on the radio, the next article or book you read, the next TV show or movie you watch. Or heck, maybe even the next answer you receive in Yahoo! Answers.
Just because it is not a deep, booming voice from the sky with a thunder clap and lightning bolt doesn't mean it's not real. Just a tad more discreet and subtle.
God is the process of life itself. Everywhere and always. All Ways.

If you're expecting God to call you on the phone or send you a postcard you've got it all wrong. God still speaks but we as a whole are not listening. If every person on earth choses to ignore God and cease to praise Him the Bible says that the rocks would cry out and Praise His name. It is not His nature to abandon those He has created. But we as sinful by nature willfully abandon Him at the slightest hint of trial or test. If we could understand every aspect of who God is would He still be God? Part of allowing Him to be God is to accept the fact that we cannot fully understand His plan.

God hasn't abandoned you. It's just that he';s never existed to began with.
If you research history far back enough you can began to understand that once there were many gods. Gods for every thing such as gods of the wind, sky, earth, water, rain, as well as women gods . Than one day an old jew made the decision that he could better his people if they had one god. him and his people began anew their religion with the conception of one religion and this was the beganning of origanized religion with one male god and eventually the one god you refer to. adopted by also both christians and muslims.(all other religions have not been awarded the favor of being a true religion) . women gods have also disappeared from our life with these three mahjor religions.

The Deists were right. the Gods created the earth and abandoned it its up to you to grow spiritually and learn from those around you whats right and wrong. but be careful some people will think they know whats best but will only hurt you in the long run.

Hebrews 1:1-2 "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe."
There have been no prophets who like the prophets of old since Christ. Now we have the Scripture (contained in the Holy Bible) to lead us. Want to hear from God? Read the living Word of God!

I hear from God all the time... I know He didnt abandon us, He gave us the Promised Messiah. Had He not, then of course it looks like abandonment.

I believe god has been talking to us through many different means, but this being the age of computers, TV, hip-hop, and people who think of themselves first and others never, we just are not hearing him. All we need to do is slow down and pay attention. God will reveal himself to us when we are ready to listen.

My husband and I were talking of God the other day and this is my feelings. God has made himself known to mankind through prophets throughout time. Moses, Josh, David, and even though Jesus Christ's teachings. I believe that just as God revealed himself to prophets of old, he showed Himself and his Son Jesus to a 14 year old boy who prayed to know what church to join. There is a prophet still, from that Church that Joseph Smilth, Jr. (the 14 year old boy) restored. His name is Gordon B. Hinckley, and we can hear God's words still through him.
