The first thing I notice is how a man holds himself. You can read into posture, clothes, and hygiene to determine if a man respects himself. Also, hygiene is a must! After that I look at a man's smile. How to approach a woman? Directly. Be polite, complimentary, and friendly...humor is a plus, but don't over do it.

I look at the face. If the face looks good, I look him down. If that looks good, then I see if he notices me. Usually they don't. Next guy. Repeat. Goes on continuously. I like to be approached casually.
