CRT is always better than LCD/Plasma. I bought a CRT TV of Sony (trinitron technology) in 1980, Its still working well !

But at this time CRT monitors are taking back seat, because of space scarcity & technology evolution. I would prefer to go for projector home theatre. Its much better & durable than LCD/Plasma.

This could swing both way. But generally speaking, CRT (Conventional) TV's last longer than LCD TV's.

LCD operate when electrons scatter color to the liquid that are inside the screen. (Think of this as smashing two objects together.) After a while, the colors and the LC inside the TV will start to wear out.

CRT on the other hand, is more like combining colors by using Electrons (Sort of. But not really. Just trying to explain this in understandable English rather than geek speak)

CRT HDTV's are also better than LCD's because

A) They save more energy
B) They have no "shadowing" (When motions are too fast on a LCD, there will be trails of blurs)

Yes. LCD 5 years. The technology is not good enough yet.

I wouldn't worry about it; they should last at least the ten years until you might want to buy another anyway.

The ones to stay away from would be plasma TV's. Plasma's have the "burn-in" problem which can be noticable in about 5 years.
